BBFC Certification
BBFC is a guide to media content; they work as an independent and
non-profit media content regulator. BFFC operate a transparent and
consistent, labeling system in the up.
BBFC goals are:
To protect the public, primarily children rom content that may
cause harm to them.
To allow parents to make decision on which content may be
viewed.
To recognize and respect adults freedom of choices.
To provide an effective service to enforcements.
To respond to and reflect on the evolving social attitude
toward media content.
The BBFC have two examiners for each film and they regulate what
certification it deserves, mostly the senior examiner will accept their
recommendation. In some cases if the examiners disagree or if
policy issue are involved, other members of the board will view the
film including the director and presidential team. The same process
occurs with DVDs as well but one examiner rather than two sees
them.

We decided that this will not be our certification because our

content will not be suitable for the ages 12-14 because it contains
gory scenes and does not fit the 12A guidelines.
Drugs
Misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorized or
give instructional detail.
Imitable behavior
No promotion of potentially dangerous behavior which children are
likely to copy. No glamorization of realistic or easily accessible
weapons such as knives. No endorsement of anti-social behavior.
Language
There may be moderate language. Strong language may be
permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is
using the language, its frequency within the work as a whole and
any special contextual justification.

Nudity
There may be nudity, but in a sexual context it must be brief and
discreet.
Sex
Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Moderate
sex references are permitted, but frequent crude references are
unlikely to be acceptable.
Threat
There may be moderate physical and psychological threat and
horror sequences. Although some scenes may be disturbing, the
overall tone should not be. Horror sequences should not be frequent
or sustained.
Violence
There may be moderate violence but it should not dwell on detail.
There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional
gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual
violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and
its depiction must be justified by context.

We decided this because our film will contain strong bloody

violence, which would be unsuitable for viewers under the age of 15.
No one under 15 is allowed to see a 15 film at the cinema or
buy/rent a 15 rated video. This is because 15 rated are not suitable
for children under 15 years.
-

Strong violence
Frequent strong language (e.g. f***) The BBFCs guidelines
state that in a 15 rated film.
The could potentially be a great deal of strong language.
Portrayals of sexual activity strong verbal references to sexual
violence.
