DILG awards SGLG to the City of Masbate

Out of 120 local government units (LGUs) across Bicol, Masbate City was
awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of Interior
and Local Government (DILG) last September 10, 2015 at the Oriental Hotel ,
Legazpi City.
Only the City of Masbate among all the cities in the bicol region was awarded
the SGLG award.
The SGLG is an annual awarding to LGUs that practices good transparency
and accountability in terms of disaster preparedness, good financial
housekeeping ,business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental
management, social protection, peace and order and public safety as stated by Hon.
Rowena R. Tuason the City Mayor of Masbate.
The importance of the award to the local government unit is of significance in
the recognition that the local government has performed its effective and efficient
administration. The 5 million prize award will be spent for the projects and programs
of the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the betterment of the City of Masbate.
She also said that out of the 6 criterias, Masbate City complied all the
requirements that qualifies the City to the most coveted award of the Seal of Good
Local Governance -the mother of all the awards.
Legislations supported the policy on transparency, accountability,
management and formulation of local governance. No programs or projects of the
local government unit was implemented without appropriate legislative measure of
the Sangguniang Panlungsod, being the policy determining body of the City
government. Program projects like Poverty Alleviation, Protection of Women and
Children, the Senior Citizens and PWDs, Social Services, Protection of Health,
Environmental Protection, Establishment and Management of Marine Sanctuary,
Biodiversity, Solid Waste Management and various activities leads to the
accomplishment of the City in achieving the award of Good Local Governance.
She also said that hopefully in the next selection of the Seal of Good Local
Governance, Masbate City will again receive the award because the City has already
complied the additional requirements for the said award. It is to be noted that the
awards could not have been received by the City where it not for the whole
cooperation and participation of the Katipunan ng mga Barangay, the Sangguniang
Panlungsod with the City Vice Mayor, the Business Sector and the Constituency of
the City of Masbate.
