Lesson Plan Template Fall 2016

(This modified template is based on the UNK Lesson Plan Task Force Team)
Noted that this lesson plan assignment has TWO steps.

Step 1: Create a technology-integrated lesson plan

Name: Kaitlin Jackson

Date/Time: 11/03/16

Subject: Preschool
Lesson: Seasons

Setting and Assessing Student Learning Outcomes/ Knowledge of Resources

Learning Objectives: Content (1c-2)
What do you want your students to know and do
in content areas? (Remember, these must be
observable and measureable and contain the
conditions, behavior, and criteria required for
success)

Learner Characteristics (1b-1) (1b-4)

Describe the relevant student characteristics (e.g.,
races, ethnicities, nationalities, languages, gender
identities/expressions, religions, political affiliations,
socio-economic backgrounds, and disclosed sexual
orientations) and any other relevant information
regarding the students you will be teaching.
(If you are not currently a classroom teacher, feel
free to create a "classroom of your choice" that you
will teach in the future.)
Describe any students special learning and/or
medical needs.
(If you are not currently a classroom teacher, feel
free to create a classroom of your choice that you

Students will learn about the 4 different seasons

Fall, spring, summer, winter
They will learn the differences between each season

I will be teaching in a small school setting, I came from a small town and
would love to continue that small town feel in the future
I will teach my students based on their learning abilities, to make sure every
student excels
My ideal classroom will mostly be caucasian but also with some african
american and mexican students
I want my students to learn off the bat everyone is equal no
matter their skin color
My students will also all speak english

I will have a couple students that need extra help

I will make sure if they need time after class or one on one time
to provide that for my students, I want everyone to learn the same material
and understand it

will teach in the future.)

Students Prior Knowledge (1a-2)

How will you know what prior knowledge your
students have in relation to these learning
objectives (e.g., data from previous lessons or
conducting pre-assessment as part of current
lesson)?

On-going (formative) Assessment (1f-3)

What will you do during the lesson and how
will you use technology to monitor and
promote student understanding?

Post Assessment (1f-1)

How is the assessment congruent to the
learning objective(s)?
How will you know that your students have
achieved the learning objective(s)?

Materials (1e-2)
List materials/technology and attach any activity and
assessment sheet(s) used in the lesson.

Justify the use of the materials/technology used to

engage your students in meaningful learning.

Since my students will be preschoolers I will be able to teach them what they
need to know before kindergarten
I will make sure my students know the basics of all four seasons so when they
enter kindergarten they will have an idea of what the seasons are

After teaching the students about the four seasons I plan on having them take
a classroom quiz
Together as a class
I will have a picture of a sun for summer, leaf for fall, flower for spring, and a
snowman for winter
I will want my students to be able to identify the seasons with
these pictures
If I have some students that seem to be confused I will make sure
they get extra help and or have the opportunity to ask questions
I also during my teachings will be using a powerpoint explaining the seasons
with videos showing each season to keep the kids engaged and interested
I will provide a coloring sheet for the children to color after learning about the
seasons
After they color the paper we will then again go over each of the 4 seasons
names
I also want to provide a take home quiz for them to do with their parents
Just a simple one that states like which season has snow? then they can talk
about it with their parents and bring it back for me to see theyre understanding,
they will also be able to color the pictures that go along with the quiz
Online videos of the seasons
Smartboard to go into more detail
Coloring page link: https://www.reallycolor.com/convert-photo-complete.php
(here is an example of how a coloring page would look like. I would have snow,
flower, and a sun for the other ones)

The videos will help keep the children engaged because every kid that age
loves anything to do with tv
The coloring will keep the kids focused

The quiz will provide them with something to do/think about that keeps them
busy but I will also be able to see their progress with

Lesson Sequence and Delivery:

Regardless of the model, write the lesson with enough detail and teacher talk/questioning that the reader can picture the teacher candidate teaching the lesson in its entirety and/or
another teacher could step in and use the plan with minimal assistance.

Lesson
Components

Differentiation (1e-1)
1. Within Core Instruction (minimum), list technology tools, methods, and/or strategies to
meet differing student needs/interests.
2. Explain your rationale.

Tim
e
Introduction (1e-4)
Include students in knowing
what they will be doing and
why it is important (e.g.
statements/questions/other
to present student-friendly
objective)
Develop background,
foster connections,
facilitate motivation for
learning activity.

Core Instruction (1e-4)

Include appropriate lesson
content , clear sequence,
opportunities for practice
and application.

Closure (1e-4)
Include what you will
ask or say to students
to refocus students
on learning objective.

I would first ask my students

if they know what the seasons are
I would praise any students
that knew anything about the
seasons then tell them we are
going to be learning how to tell the
difference between all four of the
seasons
I would have them put their
attention towards the smartboard
and have pictures up that are
involved in the different 4 seasons

This would just let me see what my students

may already know about the seasons before I get
started

The first slide of my power

point would show a picture of a sun
meaning summer, I would give a
brief description of summer and
how its hot etc, then do this with
the other seasons
After the powerpoint is over I
will have a quiz for the students to
take to test what they learned
After the quiz I would ask the
students as a whole a couple
questions to make sure they
understand what I taught them
I would then hand out the
coloring worksheets for them to

I think having pictures with each season will

really help them realize what is happening outside
Like when they see leaves falling off trees
and turning colors they will know its fall, snow will
mean winter, the hotness outside with the sun
means summer, then flowers blooming will show
spring

Kids really seem to enjoy anything that has

to do with a screen and pictures so I believe a
powerpoint would keep their attention

take home with their parents and

bring back to me the next day
This will show me if theyre
still understanding the material
even outside the classroom

Step 2: Self-Reflection/Evaluation
Use the below rubric of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETST)and Performance Indicators for Teachers to selfevaluate your lesson plan:

curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing
their own progress.
