i.
ii.
Measure input polarity of power supply to ensure that there is no short circuit.
Marks of the power terminals should be proper without mistake. Protective
grounding should be connected properly. Switch on the power supply after all
checks above are passed.
iii.
Measure voltage of power supply, check polarity correct and power supply
located in the permitted range or not (DC nominal voltage is -48V, and the
permitted range is located in -40V - -58V).
During the test process above, in case of any abnormity, cut off the power supply
immediately and find out the fault causes.
Note:
All operations that related equipment must be perform with antistatic wrist strap. Grounding
should be well done. When inspect all kinds of power supply, pay attention to the on-off
status of every switch and circuit breaker to avoid electric shock.
2.
Check whether installation of rack and modules looks good and neat.
Check whether labels are unified and clear, and are easily identified.
ii.
iii.
Warning:
When operating on equipment with high-intensity RF (radiated frequency) signals, pay
attention to the high-intensity microwave impact on human body.

Antenna Alignment
Purpose
Complete antenna alignment according to the alignment method. RSL reach the design
value +/-2dB.
Preparation
1.
Equipment commissioning has been completed for both local and remote ends of
the link.
2.
3.
Actual field conditions and working staff shall be suitable for aerial work.
4.
Disable ATPC, ACM and XPIC. See Figure 7-1 and Figure 7-2.

Step
Main lobe of microwave antenna is rather narrow. It is normally from 0.6 degree to 3.7
degree. For example a 1.2 m diameter 23 GHz microwave antenna, there is only 0.9
degree from signal peak to zero. During antenna adjustment, we need only to adjust
slightly when signal is found. Main lobe and side lobe are shown as in Figure 7-3.
We can decide whether main lobes of antennas are aligned properly by comparing the
RSL peak value. Normally RSL peak value of the main lobe is 20 dB - 25 dB higher than
that of the 1st side lobe. If main lobes of both ends are captured by the opposite end
simultaneously, an error within 2 dB is acceptable.
Figure 7-3
If 1+1 HSB / FD protection and one antenna are adopted, shut down standby ODUs
of both ends first and power on them after antenna adjustment is done.
If 1+1 SD protection is adopted, antennas shall be adjusted as following steps.
1.
Power on master ODUs of both ends and keep them active through the
adjustment process.
Shut down standby ODUs of both ends and adjust master antennas.
Power on local standby ODU, keep the remote master antenna fixed and
adjust local diversity antenna.
Power on remote standby ODU, keep the local master antenna fixed and
adjust remote diversity antenna.
Knowledge
40
Horizontal and vertical adjustment components of antennas can be nuts or screws. Refer to
antenna installation guide for details.
i.
ii.
Connect multimeter to RSSI port of local ODU and measure the voltage.
iii.
Move local antenna horizontally in a large range and keep watching the voltage
on the multimeter.
Adjust local antenna slightly in the horizontal and vertical direction till the
voltage reaches the highest value.
iv.
According to Step 2 and Step 3, adjust remote antenna till the voltage of
remote ODU reaches the highest value.
v.
Repeat operations mentioned in Step 2 to Step 4 for two to four times. Fix
antennas of both ends when ODU voltage of both local and remote ends reach
the highest value.
vi.
Measure ODUs voltage with the multimeter. Calculate the current RSL
according to RSL and ODU voltage curve is shown as in Figure 7-4. This figure
is for A400 ODU, and different ODU maybe with different curve, please refer to
the product description of the actual installed ODU.
41
Figure 7-4
Figure 7-5
vii.
2.
42
ii.
Adjust azimuth hand pitch angle following the steps above and make H
polarization main lobe aligned correctly.
iii.
iv.
Adjust the feeder of local antenna and make V polarization RSL to the
minimum value P2.
Loosen antenna feeder slightly and move the feeder in a small range. Keep
measuring the ODU voltage till it reaches the minimum.
v.
vi.
vii.
viii. Power on local H polarization ODU and calculate minimum H polarization RSL
value of local antenna according to Step 4. Record this value as P4. Current
XPI2 (XPI2=P3-P4) shall be no less than 25 dB.
ix.
x.
According to Step iii to Step ix, adjust feeder slightly within the range from D1
to D2 and find a proper angle which makes XPI1 and XPI2 no less than 30 dB.
xi.
Note:
In the actual operation, we can also adjust antennas on the basis of V polarization signal.
43
xii.
Figure 7-6
Click Query to check XPI value of the board. See Figure 7-7.
Figure 7-7
Note:
After adjustment is done, if the link adopts XPIC configuration, we need to enable XPIC and
set Restore Time to Auto in XPIC Mode Configure. If the link doesnt adopt XPIC
configuration, keep XPIC disabled.
44
Result
1.
Align microwave antennas. RSL should be 2 dB more or less than the design value.
2.
Adjust XPI value of the dual-polarization antenna. The XPI value should be more
than 30 dB.
