ACCORDING TO VASTU, WHAT IS THE IDEAL DIRECTION OF THE STAIRCASE FLIGHT?
The first flight should be from East to West or North to South. The Reason This will ensure that the
lower steps will be in the East or North, while the higher steps will be in the West or South. Thus the useful,
morning light from the East and the constant light from the North will not be blocked by the Steps.
Turn clockwise when turning into the next flight: The Reason Since most people are right handed, they
tend to hold the handrail on the right hand side. So when they turn onto the next flight, it makes sense to
continue holding the right handrail, for which the next flight should be on the right side which means one
has to turn clockwise.

WHAT ARE THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR STAIRCASES IN VASTU SHASTRA?

There should be odd number of risers in a staircase: For example 15, 17, 19 are acceptable. The Reason
Since most people are right handed, they generally put their right foot first, while climbing a staircase. So
when they end the climb, they prefer to end on the right foot. This is possible only when there are odd
numberof steps. It is for this reason that the right foot is equated with gain, the left with loss.
Avoid circular or spiral staircase: The Reason A circular staircase takes up and wastes a lot of space,
especially in the corners and in the rooms adjacent to it. A spiral staircase is very uncomfortable to climb
and not very safe. Also the space below it is not very usable and there is the risk of bumping into it as there
is no proper head room.Avoid rooms under a staircase:The Reason Often, people use the space below a
staircase for small rooms like Toilets, Safe, Puja etc. But every time people climb the steps, a person using
the room below gets an uneasy feeling of somebody stamping on their head. He doesnt feel safe either, as if
the whole thing will collapse on him.
WHAT ARE THE IDEAL COLOURS FOR A STAIRCASE ROOM?
The ideal colours of the staircase area are light colors. The Reason One can see the steps clearly, if the
whole area is painted a light color as this reflects light.
This post was about the Vastu guidelines for the design of Staircase. The Staircase leads to the next floors
namely the Basement and Upper floors and the Terrace where the Overhead Water tanks are located.

Correct Direction

A staircase must always be built in the western or southern part of the house. Make sure its not constructed
in the northeast corner, as that could lead to financial losses for the owner. In fact, staircase in any corner
except west or south brings losses.
Tips According To Vastu For Staircase

An external staircase can be built in the southeast direction facing east,

southwest direction facing west, northwest direction facing north, and
southwest direction facing south.

Always begin your stairs from north to south or east to west. A turn can also be taken to

other sides, in case there is a lack of space.

Stairs must always have an odd number and the number must never end with a zero.
The vertical set of stairs should also have an odd number and when divided by three their remnant must be
two.
Never make circular staircases as they have the ability to cause bad health. Also, a staircase encircling the
building can lead to severe calamites.
The room which has a staircase in the southwest corner of a basement is not auspicious. As per vastu,
people living in a room such as this experience high blood pressure, undiagnosed diseases, anemia and the
like.
Construct doors at the end and beginning of each staircase. Also, its important to make sure the stairs dont
touch the northern or eastern walls.

Try constructing staircases in such a way that stairs are not openly visible to the visitors. Directly visible stairs
are thought to be inauspicious.
Broken stairs must be repaired instantly, as they may lead to tensions and accidents.
Rooms such as bathroom, kitchen, or pooja room should never be built under a staircase. This area can only
be used for creating a storage room.
If a linear staircase is constructed, it must begin from north to south or east to west (inside or outside the
house). Later, it can take any direction.

Colors According To Vastu For Staircase

Staircases must always be painted in light colors and shades such as red and black should be avoided
completely.

Stair Case placement as per Vastu Shastra

As per vaastu shastra, the staircase should always be in the negative zones like
South-West, South or West part of the house.
If staircase is built in North-East corner, it will lead to chronic diseases among
the house members.
Also, staircase should not be in center of the house.
Dos about staircase

Make staircase of the house in southern or western part of the house as these directions are heavy.

Build staircase in southeast in east, northwest in north, southwest in west and

southwest in south if the staircase is external.

Arise the stairs from the East to West or from the North to South and a turn can be taken to any other side
due to paucity of space.
Make the number of stairs odd. It should not end with zero. The number of risers should be such odd
numbers that if divided by 3, the remainder is always 2.
Paint staircase in light colors. Avoid red and black color.
Repair broken stairs immediately otherwise it may cause accidents or mental tension due to clashes.

staircase in any other corner reduces loss.

Do not build any room such as kitchen, bathroom and Pooja room under staircase. However it can be used
for storage.

As per vaastu the circular or spiral staircase should be avoided.
Light colours should be chosen for the area of staircase.

Vaasthu rules for number of Doors and Windows

http://www.astrogle.com/vaastu/vaasthu-rules-for-number-of-doors-and-windows.html

Vaasthu Shastra prescribes few rules for total number of doors and windows, while constructing a
new house. Even for existing house, which is bought or rented, these rules should be applied and necessary
modifications should be done.
Even though doors and windows are for insulation purpose, maximum of them should be in northeast corner and those walls.
Doors and windows are not merely passages for insulation or for people to enter but are also
gateways for positive and negative energies to come into the house. If a window is designed incorrectly in
the wrong direction, it can pave way for the negative energies to come in and spell disaster for the
inhabitants. Conversely, if the doors and windows are constructed in the right direction, they can bring in a
lot of prosperity and luck.
Vaasthu Rules to be followed for total number of doors and windows :

Maximum number of doors and windows should open in the North and East as compared to the South and
West.
The doors and windows should be in even numbers like 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. but not 10 and multiple of 8.(count
doors and windows seperately) 12,14,18,20 are okay.
When fixing the windows and doors, it is important to keep cross-ventilation in mind. Also, its essential to
fix windows and doors opposite to one another to allow more light and air to enter.
The main door of house should be taller than other doors. It should be of two shutters.
Doors must never be placed at the center of a wall.
South facing houses must have north facing entrances so that they fall at the eastern half.
North facing houses must have north facing entrances so that they fall at the eastern half of the side.
If you have a south or south-west facing plot, never have a door as entrance from that side. Always use east
or north-east corner door to walk into the house.
West facing houses must have their entrance towards West, to make sure the main door falls at the
Northern half of the side.
The entrance for east facing houses must be fixed towards East, to make sure the main door falls towards
the Northern half of the side.
The main gates of two houses facing each other must never open towards each other. Doors such as these
are very inauspicious.
There should not be any obstruction in front of main door like big trees; pole etc. There should not be any
temple opposite to the house too.
The doors should not be placed in center of the wall. It should be far from the centre. It should not be in
extreme corner.
For doors and windows one type of wood should be used. Teak wood is the best option for doors and
windows. However, avoid neem wood for making maindoor and doorsteps or thresholds which touch our
feet frequently.
The doors and windows should be rectangular. The doors having irregular or square shapes are not
auspicious. However, circular shaped ventillator can be used as exhaust in kitchen.
The doors should not close automatically, it may affect the health of children.
The doors should not be over size or under sized. Its size should be of ratio 2:1 in regard to height and
width.
If the door is making noise while moving, it should be repaired otherwise it can cause quarrel.
There should not be cracked door in a house. It should be replaced as soon as possible.
The entrance door should be well decorated with pictures and decorative pieces.
The main entrance door of two houses opposite to each other should not be opened towards to each
other.
