Course Analysis
Course Name: Technology Integration in the Classroom
Course Length: 6 weeks
Course Type: Online
Average Student:
The average student is a pre-service teacher or current teacher or administrator interested in learning about the various ways one could integrate technology into the 21st
century classroom.
Content Analysis:

Students should be able to navigate and use a computer, as well as how to use basic
computer programs and software like Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and/or similar programs. (General Knowledge)

Students should be familiar with and able to navigate the course management software utilized for this online course. (General Knowledge)

Students should have general knowledge of subjects taught across the different academic content areas or in their respective content area and an understanding of how
to teach those different subject areas. (Learned in the academic coursework
which leads to teacher certification and/or through experiences in the classroom)

General Goals:

Learn about common types of technology and how to integrate them in the classroom

Learn about benefits to integrating technology in the classroom and how to manage
technology use in the classroom

Identify specific technologies and methods that each student would like to integrate
in his or her classroom

Enhancing Learning:
This course will expose students to a variety of technologies and ways to integrate those
technologies in the classroom learning environment. Just as technology and societies
evolve, so should the methods in how we teach students new information in the classroom. This course will prepare students in their journey to becoming teachers in a society driven by technology.

General Course Assessments


Graphic Organizer: Utilizing an online graphic organizer such as MindMeister, students will
summarize the information learned each module on a weekly basis. Summaries should include information from any readings from that module, as well any additional resources from
that module. Although it should be completed for every module, students will only be required to submit a shared link to the graphic organizer every other week to ensure that it is
being completed. Students will be assessed on accuracy of the information.
Module Self-Tests: Module quizzes will be utilized periodically throughout the course in order to assess the students learning of general concepts discussed throughout the modules.
These quizzes are intended to be open-book quizzes.
Discussion Boards: Students will be given a discussion prompt for some modules. Students are expected to submit an original response to the discussion board. In order to create
a feeling of community and collaboration in the course, students will also be expected to
submit replies to other students original responses. The number of replies a student must
submit will vary based on the number of students in the course.
Blog Posts for Classroom Application: Students will create a blog at the beginning of the
course, and they will be expected to publish a post for various modules. While the guidelines
for posts are lax, all posts should reflect the information learned in that specific module and
focus on how they would apply that information in the classroom.
Prezi Assignment: Students will be presented with a hypothetical classroom situation. They
will create a Prezi presentation in which they would explain how they would apply what they
have learned in the course about technology integration in the given situation.
Feedback Survey: Students will be asked to complete a survey providing the instructor with
feedback on the course. This will be completed at the midpoint of the course.

Describe what it means to be a digital citizen in the classroom

Explain the importance of teaching students to be good digital citizens


Identify ways in which a teacher could teach what it means to be a digital citizen to students

Module 3: Technology Integration in Math and Science (Week 3)


Objectives
Identify types of technologies that could be utilized in math
Identify types of technologies that could be utilized in science
Determine potential problems with regards to integrating technology in these subject areas
Apply the use of technology in these subject areas in a fictional classroom setting

Module 4: Technology Integration in Language Arts and Social Studies (Week 4)


Objectives
Identify types of technologies that could be utilized in language arts
Identify types of technologies that could be utilized in social sciences
Determine potential problems with regards to integrating technology in these subject areas
Apply the use of technology in these subject areas in a fictional classroom setting

Module 5: Technology Integration Outside of the Classroom (Week 5)


Objectives
Identify methods for integrating technology with regards to parent communication
Identify methods for integrating technology with regards to student homework
Identify methods for integrating technology with regards to student communication

Module 6: Classroom Management and Technology (Week 6)

Identify tools to assist with general classroom management
Apply techniques to various situations dealing with classroom management in a fictional
classroom

For this lesson, students will be instructed to watch this video.

Students will be given a prompt concerning a hot topic surrounding
technology integration in the classroom. They will be expected to submit
an original response and then reply to classmates.
Blog Post (Assessment; Link to BLOG SUBMISSION LINK)
Students will submit the URL to their blog for this first post. After that, they
will only need to publish a post to their blog. The instructor will refer back
to this submission for their blog URL. All blog posts should reflect what
was discussed in the module and how they would apply that information
in their classroom.

Graphic Organizer Assignment
Utilizing MindMeister, students will create a graphic organizer which
summarizes the information learned in each module. They will be
completing a new section of the graphic organizer for every module, but
they will be required to submit a shareable link in Modules 2, 4, and 6.

include websites, readings, videos, or other resources that the instructor
thinks students would find helpful, relating to the information covered in
that module.
