Filter Cleaning

A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to
provide cooling . Since there is a restricted airflow the heat removal
capacity of the evaporator coil also decreases . It can also lead to
premature compressor or fan failure .

Thermostat Setting
One can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by simply
turning your thermostat back 7-10F for 8 hours a day from its normal
setting .Typically a setback of 1C will save about 1-2% .
This can be acknowledged from the fact that the insulation heat loss from
a building envelope is directly proportional to the difference in the outdoor
and the indoor temperature .
Q=UA T

Q= heat loss
UA = Product of the U value and A is the area
T = Difference in outside and inside temperature

Programmable Thermostat

According to Energy Star possible energy saving from a programmable

thermostat is 10-30%.There primary function is to adjust the building
temperature according to a series of programmed settings that result at
different times of the day . A programmable thermostat allows reduction
of these losses by allowing the temperature difference to be reduced at
times when the reduced amount of heating or cooling would not be
objectionable.

Low E Window Films

Approximately one third of a buildings cooling costs can be attributed to
solar heat gain through windows. Low E Films reject up to reject 75 % of
the solar radiation and thus can help reduce cooling energy costs by 515% .

AIR SEALING
Energy Protection Agency(EPA) estimates that users can save an average
of 15% on heating and cooling by air sealing their homes. Two major
causes of heat gained in buildings are:-

1. Exfiltration/Infiltration Heat Gained :- Heat gained inside the building

due to cracks ,small holes .
2. Heat Gained Due to Doors and Windows :- Heat gained due to large
openings such as doors and windows .

False Ceiling
False ceiling can help reduce cooling demand by reducing the heat gained
from roofs by providing a layer of air insulation. Also by decreasing the
room volume it significantly reduces cooling requirement .
