GLAZING.
1.0

PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to describe & define a method for
carrying out installation of glazing for aluminium/ timber/ steel joinery at
sites.

2.0

SCOPE
This procedure shall be applicable for all types of installation of glazing for
aluminium/ timber/ steel joinery undertaken by the Company.

DEFINITIONS

Nominated Quality Engineer at Site.

by the Management and assigned with the
responsibility of managing the Project.

5.0

PROCEDURE

5.1

Responsibility

5.1.1

The responsibility for carrying out this Method Statement shall be that of
the Project Engineer, unless otherwise specifically mentioned in this
procedure. The Quality Engineer/ Project Engineer shall be responsible for
inspection & testing.

5.2

General

5.2.1

The glass panel joints shall be joint free and weather proof, if not specified.

5.2.2

The proprietery clips, settling blocks for fixing glass panels and other
accessories shall be used as per Contract specifications or as agreed with
the Quality Engineer/ Customer if required.

5.2.3

The pre- formed rubber gaskets shall be used for fixing glass for
aluminium/ steel joinery, if not specified.

5.2.4

The Manufacturers instructions shall be generally followed for fixing of


glass panels.

5.2.5

The fixing clearance for glass shall be 3mm minimum, if not specified.

5.3

Installation

5.3.1

Timber glazing

5.3.1.1 External

The timber rebates used shall be suitably primer as per contract


specifications/ as agreed with the Quality Engineer.
The glass panels shall be fixed from the outside unless otherwise
specified.
The glass panels shall be fixed with zinc coated glazing pins, if not
specified.
The putty used shall be capable of receiving priming paint as specified.
The backputties shall be trimmed to level with rebates and front putties
shall be kept 3mm from the line of sight.
The final putty surface shall be free from discoloration, wrinkling and
grittiness.

The glass shall be fixed with hardwood beads unless otherwise


specified.

Aluminium/ Steel joinery

The glass shall be fixed with appropriate mastic compound, clips and
other accessories as per Contract specification or as agreed with the
Quality Engineer/ Customer if required.

The type and coating on glass shall be as per Contract specification or


as agreed with the Quality engineer/ Customer if required.

5.3.1

The final glass panels fixed shall be free from defects, undamaged and
clean.

5.3.2

The type, thickness, size and quantity shall be as specified or as agreed


with the Quality Engineer.

5.3.3

The mastic compound, clips and screws as specified are fixed in place.
