Part 1: Identification of Learning Problem
General Audience
The primary audience consists of educators from various levels. These range from elementary to
high school and are interested in learning about using screen casting software in their class
rooms. The primary audience will be taught how to use ScreenCast-O-Matic which is a free
screen casting software that is available for download via the internet. Screen casting can be
applied to any subject and grade level. Teachers have identified that they would like a program
that will assist them with remediation, and additional support for struggling learners.

Problem Identification
Clayton County schools have an average CCRPI score of 62 for elementary schools (14 points
below state average) 62 for Middle Schools (9 points below state average) and 68 for High
Schools (7 points below state average). Clayton County Schools has adopted the explicit
instruction teaching frame work, and identified that students are struggling in areas such as math,
and reading comprehension.
This year in Clayton County we have seen in the introduction of a new Chief Improvement
Officer, Dr. Morcease Beasley. At the beginning of the school year, it was made very clear by our
administration and Chief Improvement Officer that all Clayton County teachers will be expected
to discover new ways to engage our students in an effort to increase CCRPI scores across the
board.
One major issue that Clayton County has identified is the use of remediation. In faculty meetings
this year, our Administrative teams have expressed concerns about how remediation is used.
Normally students do not receive remediation until they have already underperformed on an
assignment or exam. The new expectation is that we remediate while students are learning new
concepts so that they receive more assistance on the front end, before they are evaluated.
I believe that Screencast-O-Matic will provide teachers with an option to assist students in this
way.

Part II: Learner Analysis
Introduction
The audience in this class is made up of certified teachers specifically in the CTAE field (Career
Technical and Agricultural Education) and special education teachers. The staff consists of 12%
Caucasian female, 54% African American female, 4% Caucasian male and 30% African
American male. The ages of the staff members range from 29-54.
Entry Characteristics:
Prerequisite skill & knowledge:

Mastery of ability to access a computer.

Mastery of accessing the Internet.
Able to access and navigate a laptop computer.
Learners have an e-mail address assigned to them.
Most learners have little to no experience with screen casting
Most learners can research and access information.

Prior Experience:

Recognize the importance of navigating a computer.

Recognize how finding web resources to support student learning is important.

Although many learners have never used screen casting software before, learners will find that
the interface is very similar to other media programs that they have used. Learners will also feel
more comfortable when they understand that this software can be used to make tasks that they
already complete easier and more efficient.
Attitudes toward Content and Academic Motivation
Clayton County schools has always prioritized the importance of effective Teachers at all schools
understand the importance of incorporating technology into their classrooms and would like to
know an easier way to have students access and turn in assignments.
One issue that some teachers have experienced, is that many teachers have become comfortable
with using traditional methods to teach students. Teachers have reported feeling overwhelmed
when learning to use a new software application or technology for the first time.
Learners have expressed the adequate training has assisted with the transition to using more
technology in their lessons. Teachers have also expressed that demonstrating practical uses for
technology in the classroom also helps with this transition.

General Learning Preference

The learners expressed a preference to conduct training in a face-to-face setting vs an online
setting. Learners expressed that they would feel more motivated if they were in a classroom
setting and that they could ask more meaningful questions as well. This information was
gathered through teacher interview.
Attitude towards Teachers and School
All participants in the development are educators and expressed great appreciation for teachers.
Common errors made by novice learners:

Teachers not understanding the usefulness of web resources.

Teachers unable to use proper online tools.
Teachers unable to set properly save files.

Group Characteristics
The school is located south of Atlanta in Jonesboro, GA where the median income is below the
national average. The classroom teachers range from 1-30 years of experience that teach in a
Title I school. The subjects taught range from Business, Healthcare, Family and Consumer

Part III: Task Analysis
I conducted the research using both a topic analysis and a procedural analysis to ensure I
captured all relevant information. Since most of the learning that will take place will be
procedural, I have created an outline that will detail the steps that learners will be taking. To
ensure that the outline was correct, I completed the steps myself to ensure that the explanations
provided were clear.

Subject Matter Expert (SME)

I (Adrian Gibson) will serve as the co-SME for this instructional plan. My formal education
consists of a bachelors degree in Business Education from Valdosta State University in Valdosta,
Georgia. I am currently pursuing a masters degree in Instructional Technology from Georgia
Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.
My primary qualification to serve as SME is my position as a Business Education teacher at
Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, GA. As a business educator I am afforded the
opportunity to use technology in my lessons every day. Having a fool lab where you can use
computers every day is something that I great appreciate and do not take lightly. This gives me
the opportunity to appeal to my learners in any way that they need me to.
