Grade Level: 10
Unit Summary:
In this unit, students will be learning how Greco-Roman societies challenged the ideas of their established governments to create the exemplars
for current western democracies. Students will listen to a lecture, participate in class discussions, and fill out a graphic organizer. Through a
webercise activity, students will analyze writings by Plato and Aristotle. These philosophers questioned the legitimacy of tyranny and helped
establish the rule of law as an essential component of western politics. Students will use what they have gleaned from the webercise to complete
a creative writing assignment. Lastly, students will determine the various contribution to western political thought made by Judeo-Christian ideas.
This will be accomplished through a CLOZE reading assignment of a chapter in their textbook.
