EQ: How does the structure of macromolecules affect their

utilization in the body?
What are the two types
of inhibitions? (L1)

The two types of inhibitions are Competitive and Allosteric a.k.a. non-competitive
Competitive competes for the active site and non-competitive binds to another part of
the enzyme

What are the two types

of metabolism? (L1)

The two types of metabolism are Anabolism and Catabolism

Anabolism is two small molecules joining to become one bug molecule
Catabolism is one big molecule broken into two small ones

What is required for a

chemical reaction to
occur and what affects
the speed of that
reaction? (L2)

In order for a chemical reaction to occur the reactants must have enough energy to
break existing bonds to form new ones so basically you cant have a chemical reaction
without energy.
Some things that can affect the speed of the reaction are temperature, Ph, enzyme
concentration, substrate concentration, and product concentration

What are the monomers

and polymers for
proteins, carbohydrates,
lipids, and nucleic acid?
(L3)

Protein
Monomer: amino acid
Polymer: polypro tide
Carbohydrates
Monomer: monosaccharaides
Polymer: polysaccharides
Lipids
Monomer: fatty acid
Polymer: lipid
Nucleic Acid
Monomer: nucleotide
Polymer: nucleic acid

What is a chemical
reaction, how do you
write one, and what do
they involve? (L3)

A chemical reaction is the process that changes one set of chemicals into another set
of chemicals.
When setting up a chemical reaction, the reactant goes on the left and the product
goes on the right with an arrow in between.
Chemical reactions always involve breaking of bonds and form bonds in new
products

How does diet affect

your life and what are
crucial parts of a proper
diet? (L4)

Diet can affect your life and body because if you have a good diet then your body
will function properly and you wont have as big of a chance of getting sick.
However, if you have a bad diet then your body isnt going to get the necessary
minerals to properly function and it will be easy for you to get sick.
Crucial parts of a good diet are fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. In a day,
you should have 2 cups of fruit, 3 cups of vegetables, 3 cups of dairy, 7 ounces of
grains, and 6 ounces of protein.

Summary:

Summary:

In class, we learned about inhibitions and that there are two different types. The two
different types of inhibitions are competitive and allosteric. The difference between
them is that competitive competes for the active site while allosteric attaches itself to
another part of the enzyme. There are also two types of metabolism which are
anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism is two small molecules combining to make one
big molecule and catabolism is one big molecule breaking into two small molecules.
We also talked about chemical reactions. For a chemical reaction to happen, energy is
required because the reactants must have enough energy to break existing bonds and
form new ones. When writing out a chemical reaction, the reactant goes on the left of
the arrow and the product goes on the right of the arrow.
