Job Steps
Erect mobile scaffold

Steps with High Residual risk scores must be

approved by Discipline Manager
Civil Manager - Syd Phillips
Mechanical & Electrical Manager Tony Victor

Potential Hazards
Fall from height

Controls

Person responsible for erecting the mobile

scaffold must hold a basic scaffolders ticket. If
there are no qualified/experienced workers
available, the scaffold must be ordered from an
external provider who can supply and erect as
per the minimum standards.

Utilise safe manual handling practices, including

share lifting if required.

A pre-work inspection of the scaffold must be

conducted to ensure adequate access, work
platforms and hand railing is in place. If in
doubt, do not use the scaffold.

Collapse, potential falls

Manual handling, potential body strain

Work from the scaffold

Falls from height

Collapse, potential falls

Access to any access or working platforms

must be via the internal ladder access system.

All access openings in working platforms are

to be closed when a person is working on the
platform.

At no time is the scaffold to be altered in that

bracing, edge protection, working platforms, etc
is removed without having first consulted the
scaffold erector.

The safe working load of the working

platform is not to be exceeded.

The scaffold must be used to support an

object, item or material that may affect the safe
working load of the scaffold.

Ensure tools, equipment and materials are

adequately stored and secured to prevent them
from falling from the scaffold.

Work must be ceased if other site workers

enter the work area of the mobile scaffold. If
required, barricade the work area.

Falls from height

No person is to be on the scaffold whilst it is

moved.

Tools, equipment and materials falling from height

Persons must not use other structural

components of a building to pull themselves and
the scaffold into a different position.

Equipment and materials must be either

removed from the scaffold or secured to prevent
anything from falling from the scaffold during the
move.

Moving / relocating the scaffold (cont)

Falls from height

The ground conditions of the new working

area must be inspected prior to the move to
ensure it is free of obstructions (e.g. waste
materials, electrical leads, etc) and is suitable to
carry the load of the scaffold. If in doubt of the
ground load supporting ability, seek advice from
the site manager.

If required, always seek assistance to move

the scaffold to avoid over-exertion.

Person responsible for dismantling the mobile

scaffold must hold a basic scaffolders ticket. If
there are no qualified/experienced workers
available, the scaffold must be left as is for the
scaffold supplier to dismantle and remove from
site.

Utilise safe manual handling practices, including

share lifting if required.

Points to Consider when Completing this JSEA:

(this list is not inclusive simply a prompt)
Does a work procedure/ existing JSEA relate to this job?
Have all relevant personnel been trained in the appropriate procedures?
Do all relevant personnel hold the required competencies / authorisations
required for the task(s)? Have these been identified?
Have all relevant parties been notified and included?
Is signage required?
Are there special PPE requirements?
Is there an MSDS that needs to be referred to and made accessible?
Is there a permit required for the job and is it available?
Have all existing and recommended controls been noted on the above
table and explained to those involved?
Are any new hazards being introduced if so, are they adequately
controlled to ensure an acceptable level of risk is maintained?
Are there any mechanical aids or special tools / equipment that need to
be made available?
Have the monitoring requirements been considered?
Environmental Issues: Erosion and sediment controls/ chemical and oil spills/
fauna and flora/ dust/ noise/ vibration/ public complaints
