Badminton Rules and Regulations

General Procedures

1. Teams must arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled start time to insure that the event
runs on schedule.
2. The Official is responsible for recording scores, running clock, and keeping order.
The Official has the authority to eject any player for unsportsmanlike behavior
(profanity, fighting, and participating in a contest under the influence of alcohol or other
drugs, etc)

EQUIPMENT

Teams must supply their own rackets for warm-up and play/game.
Teams playing in the first and last games should help the officials set up the benches and
put in order the materials used.

Match Format

Games will be played to 12 points, provided that, when and if the score reaches 11-all,
the game will not end at 12, but will continue to be called to 14.
Matches will consist of only best of 3 games.

Game Rules

A player may not touch the net with a racket or with his/her body during play.
A birdie may not come to rest or be carried on the racket.
A birdie may hit the net on its way across during play and the rally can continue.
A term of service is called an inning . A loss of serve is called a side out.
A player may not reach over the net to hit the shuttlecock.
A coin toss or spin of racket determines who will serve first.
The serve must travel diagonally (cross court) to be good.
A serve that touches the net and lands in the proper court is called a let serve
The racket must make contact with the birdie below the waist on a serve.
The server and receiver shall stand within the respective service courts until the serve
is made

Volleyball Rules and Regulations


General Procedures

1. Teams must arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled start time to insure that the event
runs on schedule.
2. Any player that is bleeding must leave the game immediately. The bleeding must be
stopped and the wound securely covered with a bandage before the player can continue. If
there is blood on any clothing or jersey, it must be changed before the player resumes
play.

Equipment

1. Teams must supply their own volleyballs for warm-up.


2. Teams playing in the first and last games should help the officials set up the benches and
put in order the materials used.

Match Format
1.

50% female minimum on the court at all times. If there are 6 players present, there must
be at least 3 females.
2. Rally scoring is used (25 points, win by two, point available for each team during play).
3. Matches will consist of the best 2 of 3 matches
4. All games must be won by 2 points

Game Rules
1.

If both teams have 6 players present, the match will be played 6 v 6. A team with 4-5
players present must play undermanned even if the opponent has 6 players.
2. Players cannot spike or block the serve
3. A serve contacting the net, but falling into the receiving teams' court will be considered
legal and in play. A serve that contacts the net and lands in the serving teams' court or
lands out of bounds will results in a side-out.
4. Teams are allowed one 30-second time-out per game

Illegal Hits
1.

An illegal hit is: 1) slapping the ball, 2) bumping the ball with two separated hands
(hands must be together), 3) carrying the ball, 4) palming the ball, 5) bobbling the serve
(hitting the ball two separate times), and/or 6) directing the ball (throwing). NOTE: in order
to not be an illegal hit, the ball must leave the players' hands/arms immediately upon
contact of the ball
2. It is illegal for persons playing the back row to spike the ball in front of the ten-foot line on
the court. You can have a maximum of 3 players in the front row. Any remaining players on
the court will be considered back row. The server will always be considered back row. The

server is defined as the person serving or who has just completed serving for the receiving
team.

BASKETBALL RULES AND REGULATION


EQUIPMENT

Teams must supply their own basketballs for warm-up.


Teams playing in the first & last games should help the officials set up the materials neede
and put in order after used
F.I.B.A.Rules apply, with the following modifications and exceptions.
Recent Changes to FIBA rules- 10 sec. rule is now 8 sec.rule. & Foot Ball(knee down) now (hip
down)
PLAYERS
To begin the game, each team must have 3 players on the court, dressed, and
ready to play 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time.
o Should a team be reduced to less than 3 players at any given time (due to foul accumulation
or injuries) that team will lose the game.
o Player SUBSTITUTIONS can be made on all dead balls
GAME TIME
o Teams must arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled start time to insure that the event
runs on schedule.
o Games will consist of four quarters with a total of 28 minutes of RUNNING TIME, with a
30 seconds time-out at each quarters.
OVERTIME
If a game is tied after regulation time, there will be three (3)-minute OT period.
If at the end of the 1st OT period the game still remains tied, a 2 nd OT period will begin (no
time limit) The winner will be the first team to score eight (8) points.
A jump ball will begin each period of overtime.
TIME-OUTS
Each team is permitted one (1) time-out per quarter, and one (1) time-out per overtime
period.
Unused time-outs may not be carried over to the next half or overtime period.
Time-Out opportunities: time-outs may be asked in the following instances.
a) For both teams, on dead balls
b) For the non-scoring team, after a field goal (basket) is scored.
c) During live play when a team has possession of the ball
If a team requests a time-out during play without having a time-out remaining, they will be
charged with a technical foul (2 shots and possession).
FOULS
Players foul out of the game after the fifth (5th) personal foul.
TECHNICAL FOULS
By a PLAYER on the COURT - 2 free throws no line-up, plus possession.
By a SUBSTITUTE - 2 free throws(no line-up) and possession of ball at centre.
Two (2) technical fouls result in a game ejection, and an automatic 1-game suspension.
INTENTIONAL FOULS - OR UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
Two (2) shots plus possession of ball.
FOUL SHOTS
Regular foul shots are two (2) shots to make two (2) (2 to make 2).
Players may move upon release of the ball.
The free throw shooter and people lined up outside the 3-point line must wait for the ball to
hit the rim before crossing their respective lines.
FIGHTING/ROUGH PLAY
The referees may (at their discretion) stop a game if they feel play has become too rough
(e.g. frequent intentional fouls in the last seconds to stop clock).
Fighting will not be tolerated offenders will be immediately ejected from the game and must
leave the playing area.

The Intramural Protest and Disciplinary Committee reserves the right to take further action
with regard to fouls/suspensions once the officials report has been filed.
Captains are accountable for the conduct of their team members . Captains who fail to control
their players expose themselves to disciplinary action
