Recycle Bin
Recycle Bin - Files or projects that are deleted from the Data Manager are now c ollected into the Recycle
Bin.
o Users can easily drag and drop files to the recycle bin. (Note that files in the recycle bin c ounts
against Company Cloud Storage)
o Users can restore files from the recycle bin to their original loc ations.
Cloud Storage
Cloud Storage - The Cloud icon in Data Manager now reports the am ount of storage in use and available.
Map
Map manger info tool has been removed. Now the user only needs to select a plotted point to open
the info balloon. The selection works with the currently highlighted file when m ultiple files are being

displayed.
Point info balloon has been enhanced to display m ore information.
Administration
Added a Subscription Manager for viewing current subscriptions and their status.

Notifications - a warning notification now occurs when the user switches from GPS to conventional

The menu customization option has been removed from the Configure menu group. T his option is now
available in the main menu MAGNET icon context menu.
Menu items can now be fully c ustomized for name, location, and group.
The menu customization can also be save to a file and re- loaded if necessary.
The menu customization can be removed by restoring the menus to the factory defaults.

Added ability to change application color scheme in Configure - Global: Dark/Gold/Silver/Grey schemas

Job
Added the ability to Save Job As.
Imported DTM's are now stored in the job folder. Previously they were only stored in the main
application DTM folder.
Job History reports are translated now.
Configure
Added the ability to copy a job configuration so it can be used as a template to redefine a new one.
Highlight a configuration in the list and select Add. The selected configuration will be used as the
template for the new configuration.
Edit
Added the ability to draw and edit arcs using control codes in Edit Linework.
o Go to Edit - Linework
o Select the Add button.
o Name the line.
o Select Add Points - From Map.
o Select the start point.
Click in open map space and hold to bring up the control code menu.

Select a control code to define the currently selected point with arc, circle, etc... options.
o Select the next point (continue until line is complete)
Edit Points - The user can now specify the c olumn order. This option is available in the Edit - Points MAGNET logo context menu. The customized order is applied to all lists with points.
Backsight - Delta NEZ data is now available in the backsight raw data view and the raw data editor.
Raw Notes can now be entered from any measure dialog, to be viewed in Edit - Raw Data, or exported to
one of the supported raw file formats.

Geotags can now be added to existing photos.
Map
Added the ability to view point notes on the map in View Properties.

Added the ability to add a random point to the project, by clicking and holding on the screen. Point is
created at the cursor location.
Offset Linework - Now available in the MAP screen for offsetting polylines graphically. To access this
feature, select a line and then click and hold on the map to bring up the pop-up menu. This routine is
also available from the Calculate menu group. Note, that if the linework was imported as background
linework (default behavior), select the line, click and hold, and add it to a layer first. Then, select the
line, click and hold, and choose the offset linework option. In the image below, the pop up menu shows
the Add to Layer option as well as the Create Offset Linework option.

Inverse, Corner Angle, and Area calculations can now be done directly from the main map.
o Inverse - Select two points, and click and hold to select Inverse.
o Corner Angle - Select three points, and click and hold to select Inverse.
o Area - Select three or more points, and click and hold to select Inverse.

GPS
Added the ability to start the base station outputting corrections by TCP/IP over GPRS.
Added the ability to save a static file directly to a field controller while using the PP Kinematic style.

Localization Report Export is now available in the MAGNET icon context menu of the localization dialog.
Robotic
Added Remote Control to the Robotic Toolbar in Backsight.
Apps
Added News to Apps (RSS Topcon news).
Survey
Surface - A new feature that allows the user to simultaneously topo and create a real-time DTM of the
measured surface.
o The user can create a new surface or append an existing surface that might be in progress.
o The user can specify an existing surface, so that a volume report is generated at the end of the
survey.
Boundary - Use this base surface for doing stockpiles or pits. The extents of the survey will
be used for the bottom of the stockpile, or top of the pit.
Min Elev - The lowest point surveyed will create a plane for the base surface.
Max Elev - The highest point surveyed will create a plane for the base surface.
Fixed Elev - A user defined elevation will create a plane for the base surfac e.
Design DTM - Select an existing surface for the base.
No Volume Calc - This option simple creates the new surface and does not generate a
volume report.

Quick/Precise Measurements - Added two measurement buttons for GPS and robotic instrum ents in topo
and stake routines. Each button is c onfigurable to allow for two separate m easurement styles without
having to changes settings. The bottom right icons shown in the image below is how the user quickly
selects the different measurement styles. Precise is the left button, and Quick is the right button. The
settings button at the top right of the im age shown below is where the user configures the behavior of
each button.

Added custom text labels to the live video view.
Added the direction arrows for the current line being surveyed while in the map view.
Prism icon in toolbar now shows the current EDM style graphically: Prism/Non-Prism/Sheet/Long

Added the ability to see the next point number in the map text labels.
The map text label settings are now remembered separately for every topo/stake routine.

Circle linework now support (by radius/edge points or by 3 edge points).
o Circle Edge - Measure the first edge point of a circle and set the control code to Circle Edge. After
the third point with the same code and string identifiers, the circle will be drawn.
o Circle Radius - Measure the center point of a circle and set the control code to Circle Radius.
Measure the edge of the circle with the same code and string identifiers, and the circle will be
drawn.
Added the Grid Lines option to Topo for Robotic and Conventional total station styles. This option was
previously only available for GPS.
Coordinates in Topo dialog use letters N, E, S, W in BLH mode (instead of negative values).
Calculate
Added Calculate - Offset Points routine. This allows the user to offset multiple points relative to the
original points. Points can come from point selection or entry, a point list, an Area, or linework.

Stake
Turn to Design Point - For robotic and motorized instruments, the user can now tell the instrum ent to
rotate to the design point in stake routines by selecting Turn to Design Pt icon in the design point pop-up
menu.

Added the ability to upload job related information, (Job

projections/DTMs/Geiods) to Enterprise in a single file transfer.
The current job is now added to the upload list by default.
Downloaded files from Enterprise can now be automatically imported, if the file extension is recognized.
File transfer settings are now available in Configure - Enterprise.

Introduction
MAGNET Enterprise is an internet cloud c omputing environment for managing company assets and projec t
data, as well as real-tim e communications with MAGNET Field and MAGNET Offic e users.
Host Data Centers
A true cloud environment, hosted by one of the world's leading cloud hosting c ompanies, in business
since 1998 with over 161,000 custom ers.
High availability and data redundanc y.
Physical Security
o Keycard protocols, biometric scanning protocols and round-the-c lock interior and exterior
surveillance monitor access to every one of the data c enters.
o Only authorized data center personnel are granted access credentials to the data c enters. No one
else can enter the production area of the datacenter without prior c learance and an appropriate
escort.
o Every data center em ployee undergoes multiple and thorough background sec urity checks before
they're hired.
Precision Environment
o Every data center's HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system is N+1 redundant. This
ensures that a duplic ate system immediately comes online should there be an HVAC system
failure.
o Every 90 seconds, all the air in the data centers are circ ulated and filtered to remove dust and
contaminants.
o Advanced fire suppression systems are designed to stop fires from spreading in the unlikely event
one should occur.
Conditioned Power
o Should a total utility power outage ever occur, all of the data centers' power system s are
designed to run uninterrupted, with every server rec eiving conditioned UPS (Uninterruptible
Power Supply) power.
o The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant, with instantaneous failover if the prim ary UPS fails.
o If an extended utility power outage occurs, the routinely tested, on-site diesel generators c an run
indefinitely.
Core Routing Equipment

o Only fully redundant, enterprise-c lass routing equipment is used in the data centers.
o Fiber carriers enter the data centers at disparate points to guard against service failure.
Network Technicians
o The networking and security teams working in the data centers are c ertified and are thoroughly
experienced in managing and monitoring enterprise level networks.
o The Certified Network Technicians are trained to the highest industry standards.

Magnet uses HTTPS for secure 128-bit encrypted connections. HTTPS is "Hyper Text Transfer Protoc ol"
with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), another protocol prim arily developed with secure, safe Internet

Introduction
MAGNET Field is a cloud-enabled application that inc ludes all the computational, data c ollection, and
stakeout functionality of Topc on's TopSURV 8 product, hardware support for Topcon, Sokkia, Gowin, and
generic NMEA GPS products, and the new features included in this docum ent.
MAGNET Field supports devices with the following spec ifications:
Windows CE 6.x with QVGA screen resolution
Windows Mobile 6.x with VGA resolution and the Microsoft Bluetooth stack
Windows 7 with 1024 x 600 resolution and the Mic rosoft Bluetooth stack
Note: MAGNET Field does not support Windows CE 5.x or 4.x.

Code and string improvements were made for touch interfac e. All control codes are now part of the c ode

The virtual keyboard now has all special characters and a code suggestion feature for fast code entry.
Geotagging options available in the Photo Note > Capture > Settings dialog inc lude: Timestamp,
Coordinates, Direction, and Barc ode (if available).

Stake Road routines now have the option to stop at all critic al vertical transition points.
Display improved in Real-time Roads to show perpendic ular from rover to the alignm ent c urrently being
staked.
Added the ability to use road strings to define the tem plate slopes. If the road inc ludes a hinge point
string and a catch point string, the user can select the hinge point and choose Tem plate Slopes to define
the slope ration between these two strings in real time, or at the current station.

Introduction
MAGNET Office Tools is a is a cloud-enabled data processing application that enables users to generate final
coordinates from MAGNET Field, TopSURV, and Pocket 3D files, and Topcon and Sokkia total station, level, and GPS raw
data files. All existing functionality contained in Topc on Tools, and the new features included in this
document, is included in MAGNET Office Tools. Note that version one does not have Advanc ed Post
Processing at this time. The optional Advanc ed Post Processing add-on m odule will be added soon.
