Notas:
(2) "Because of my attachment to the Orient end to what Ghandi's work stood
for, his death touched me deeply. As a tribute I had made a small model of the
Outstretched Hand of humanity. I thought it might be built as a memorial, and
so sent it to Nehru. Later when I went to India and made the Prime Minister's
portrait, he asked me to try to improve the park design for Ghandi's burialplace at Raj-Gat. My first attempt was dismissed by Krishna Menon as being like
Stonehenge. The second was in the form of grass covered truncated pyramid open
in the middle. The model of this was taken by Albert Mayer the architect with
whom I worked on this in New York to show to Nehru in New Delhi. I was
startled, on a recent trip, to see that this idea has been carried out. Textos
Inc., New York and. Pgina 29 de Isamu Noguchi a sculptor's world. (The Isamu
Noguchi Foundation). Editado por Steidel, Gttingen, Alemania 2004.
(3) "I picked up a drawing of the 1948 representing an open hand
above the sky-line; five women grouped on the ground see it rise to
view. From then onwards I only kept the hand in my drawing its
outline getting more and more pure. I drew it during my travels. It
took shape."

Oevre complte, volumen 5, p. 153, "Les signes". Opus cit.
l'Himalaya. "Le Corbusier. Oevre complte, volumen 5, p. 155, Opus cit.
(8) "Quite in the beginning of Chandigarh I was asked by the
authorities to consider the possibility of evolving a symbol crown
the Capitol. I spoke to them of "the Open Hand" -the symbol of the
modern times, -the symbol of future times." Carta del 22 de julio
de 1955, publicada en Le Corbusier. Le Grand. 1887-1965, opus cit.
(9) "The abundance seems to be the sign of the epoch. The Open Hand
to receive, the open hand to give could be chosen as a symbolic
materialization of all these victories!" Carta de diciembre de 1954,
publicada en Le Corbusier. Le Grand. 1887-1965, opus cit.
(10) Dear Mr. Nehru. I was so glad your miraculous venture Through Asia and
Europe met such a success. Let me express my deep admiration "They wish to
place us on the horns of a USA-URSS dilemma. This is the result of a lack of
information which can only be obtained by an enquiry on the spot regarding the
differences and similitudes which condition the fast developing present
machinist phenomenon." "I refuse to play into your hands and accept the
conditions of the dilemma which may be terrible." This monument will have far
reaching ethical consequences. I am sure that by dressing in the place "The Open
Hand", India will make a gesture which wj.(ilegible en su publicacin)
corroborate your intervention which is so decisive at the crucial moment of the
machinist evolution and its threats.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, demasiadas coincidencias
conmovi profundamente. Como tributo hice una
pequea maqueta que representaba la mano
extendida de la humanidad - the Outstretched
Hand -.
