Determine or clarify the meaning of unlnown and mulitiple-meaning
words and phrases based on a grade 4 reading and content, choosing
flexibly from a range of strategies.

the NETs-S standards in Week 3)

Long-Term Learning
Goal or Outcome:

1. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning,
and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning,
creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking
and inventiveness
b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving
authentic problems using digital tools and resources
c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal
and clarify students conceptual understanding and thinking,
planning, and creative processes
d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in
learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face
and virtual environments.
At the end of this unit of curriculum, what is it that you want your
students to learn?

ABCD Objectives or
Outcomes:

By the end of this unit, my students will be able to use multiple

strategies to understand the meaning of a word.
4th grade Language Arts students will be able to
The students will solve problems using digital tools and resources
The students will be working with Educreation, in pairs
With 85% accuracy, students will complete assigned task

Description of Assessment
Assessment Plan:

What evidence do you have of students understanding? How will know

that they have met the objectives above? You must have an
assessment statement for each objective. Write your assessment
statements in this box.
My 4th grade Language Arts students will be able to solve problems
using digital tools and resources provided and will be using

Educreation, in pairs to complete assigned task with 90% accuracy. I

will provide summative and formative assessments

Description of Activities with Technology and Materials

Activity Design:
Plan to create curricula that includes diverse and
multiple perspectives.
Class starter and lesson connection:
How will you get the students attention and
motivate them? Before introducing my digital
artifact, my students will complete worksheets
that will prepare for the assignment. For
example, I will present them with a sentence: The
course I took was very informative; I learned so
much. This will open them up to the concept of
using context clues.
Teacher and student activities:
What will you do/say or have the students do/say
in order to connect this lesson with the previous
one or build on prior knowledge? I will ask them
to reflect on the previous assignment about
inferencing-you have to use build on prior
knowledge and use context clues to discover
meaning of something.

Technology Connection:

Describe the activities in which you and the

students will engage. Be a "fly on the wall" and
describe in detail what is going on in your
classroom.
I will introduce the lesson by asking what they
know about context clues, then write the
sentence on the board, to see if they can figure
out the meaning of the underlined word. From
there, they will show what you know by
completing the worksheets on Educreation.
Describe the strategies you will use.
Review/check for prior knowledge, check for
understanding/question, evaluate and
summarize, technology tools, and small group
instruction.
Do you need to provide direct instruction? If so,
describe it.
No

Materials and Resources:

Will you facilitate the lesson? If so, describe your
approach.
Yes, to ensure understanding.
Will students work independently, with a partner
or in groups? Describe.
They will be able to work in pairs or individually.

What strategies, materials, etc. are you using to

teach children with exceptionalities?
They will be able to use dictionaries more freely,
given step-by-step directions presented visually
and/or out loud, and allowed extended time for
writing assignments and tests.
Which technology will support the lesson? List
the technology, software, URLs, etc. that you
and/or the students will use. Describe the
technology integration strategies you will use.
They will create an Educreation account to show
what you know about the topic
List any handouts, books, equipment, media, etc.
that you will use to support your lesson.
I will provide them with 3 worksheets on finding
the meaning of a word using context clues.
Context clues: The Meaning is There!
Context clues: The Secret Garden
Context clues: Using the Helpful Grid

Reflection on Lesson Design

Future Actions :

Answer the following questions:

Explain how you incorporated information from
the chapter and D2L modules into this lesson
plan.
Recalling the information about using digital
artifacts in the lesson have been helpful, but in
this case, I Googled something for my students
to use.
After considering this lesson plan, what will you
do differently when you design the next lesson in
light of your new understandings?
I am not sure as of now because I love the
artifact I chose; I was able to have fun with it
myself and will use it again in the future. It allows
for students to be a teacher in sense, and they
gives them independence.
Or, if you had more time/resources, etc., how
would you change the lesson and/or technology
artifact?
I would not change the lesson or artifact

How does your technology artifact showcase

design principles?
I used visual hiearchy
How does your technology artifact require
student use of higher order thinking skills?
They have to be able to understand the passage
and underlined word to discover meaning. This
requires them to critically think, so they are able
to process the text to find out what the word
means.
How does the technology in your lesson align to
the content you are trying to teach in your
lesson?
The technology in this lesson provides my
students the opportunity to showcase their
knowledge of the assignment.
