General aims:
to arouse Ss interest in the subject of the new lesson;
to improve and revise their vocabulary;
to develop communication during class;
to make Ss use their previous knowledge;
to check if the Ss have assimilated the grammar and vocabulary;
Specific aims:
by the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
recognize famous landmarks;
describe famous landmarks;
express their opinion on favourite places to visit;
ask about peoples nationality.

Stages of the lesson


Organisation
* T greets the Ss and checks if there are any absentees. (Time-2 min)
* T checks homework by asking some Ss to read their answers aloud while the other Ss
check and correct their homework. (Time-10 min)
ACTIVITY 1 (Warm-up)
AIMS: - to create a pleasant atmosphere for the English class;
- to get Ss ready for the next stages of the lesson;
- to recognize famous landmarks;
MATERIALS: a handout with the world map and six famous landmarks;
METHODS: conversation, matching, speaking.
PROCEDURE
The T sticks the handout on the blackboard and asks the Ss
to take turns and match the landmark with the appropriate
country.

ACTIVITY 2

AIMS: - to match the names of the six landmarks to the pictures;


MATERIALS: handouts
METHODS: conversation, matching, speaking.
PROCEDURE
After identifying the correct monuments and their
corresponding countries, Ss are given a handout containing
the names of the landmarks and are requested to match
them to the pictures in activity 1. In order to do the activity,
Ss work in pairs.
ACTIVITY 3

AIMS: - to describe famous landmarks;


MATERIALS: handouts
METHODS: conversation, exercise, completion.
PROCEDURE
Ss are asked to fill in a text, describing the famous
attractions, with their names. Ss work individually. Then,
the T asks some of them to read their sentences.

ACTIVITY 4

AIMS: - to give opinion on favourite touristic attractions;


MATERIALS: handouts
METHODS: conversation
PROCEDURE
The T asks the Ss to think of one of the landmarks which
they would most like to visit and why. Ss write their
answers on the handout. Some Ss will read their answers.

AIMS: - to ask and answer about nationalities;


MATERIALS: handout
METHODS: conversation, exercise, completion
PROCEDURE
The T organises the class into groups of 4. The Ss are
asked to complete three conversations using the prompts
given. After writing their answers on the worksheet,
some of the Ss are asked to read the dialogues aloud.

ASSIGNING HOMEWORK
* T tells Ss to copy the Grammar snapshot box in their notebooks and do exercise 12 on page 23
as homework and explains what it has to be done. (2 min.)

* T praises the Ss and gives marks to the most active Ss. (3 min.)
