regular e irregulares

Los verbos regulares terminan en:

Some verbs ending in ER (verb + er)

So, to conjugate the verbs in present

tense, we need to consider the personal
pronouns:

The verb form thatends inAR is called

theinfinitive.AR is theinfinitive
ending. The English infinitive has the
word "to" in front of the verb. The
verbwithout theAR is called
thestemorverb base.

To conjugate an-ARverb, remove the

infinitive ending and then add the
appropriate endings, as follows: habl + :

We can start it simple. Lets conjugate hablar (to

speak) with the first person singular

Now we can conjugate verbs ending in AR

Verbo: hablar

Note that is the verb ending which

tells us who is doing the action.
There is no need for a subject
pronoun. However, when we
address the 3rd person, pronouns
may be needed for emphasis.

So here is how they work:

q Hablo espaol = I speak Spanish.

q Compras un peridico = you buy a
newspaper (Just one of you).
q Trabaja en una tienda = he (she or
ud.) works in a store.
q Estudiamos ingls = we study
English.
q Visitis Espaa = you visit Spain
(more than one of you)
q Aman los deberes = they love doing
homework

Note how, when the direct object of a verb is

a person (rather than a thing), we add the
word a.
E.g. Usted mira a la profesora.

Where a runs into el it becomes al.

E.g. Miras al chico = you look at the boy.
Llama a la amiga = she calls the friend.

are ready to learn the next type, those having an
infinitive which ends in er.

Im sure you have got the hang of verbs you

have met so far, so it is now time to look
at the last set of regular verbs, known as
IR verbs.
As you would expect, Ir verbs have a
present infinitive ending in ir.
Note that the endings are the same as for
ER verbs in all except the 1st and 2nd
persons plural.
