MEMO

To Chairperson, Creative Industries Teaching and Learning Committee

From Terry Flew, Head of Media and Communication

Date 26 March, 2003

Subject Advertising Creative: Copywriting and Art Direction

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Creative Industries Teaching and Learning Committee approve the following unit as per
the unit outline provided for offering from Semester One, 2004.

RATIONALE

The Creative Industries Faculty’s joint initiative with the Faculty of Business in jointly offering postgraduate degree
programs in Strategic Advertising and Creative Advertising, that went to Courses Working Party in December 2003,
requires the development of intermediate level units for Graduate Diploma and Masters students. This unit builds
upon the introductory units that have already been approved by Faculty- Advertising Creative: Introduction and
Advertising Creative: Electronic Media, providing a grounded understanding of the relationship between text and
image in print and electronic media, as well as developing skills in client briefs, project management and audience
research, for both the commercial and non-profit sectors. It complements the new unit in Graphic Design being
developed at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Visual Arts discipline. Delivery of the unit has few
resource implications and can be undertaken by existing staff in the Media & Communication discipline area.
