Fixed Stars

Capulus conjunct the 7th House cusp: blindness to the faults of our enemies and the virtues of our
allies
Zosma conjunct the Moon’s South Node: Zosma causes benefit as a result of disgrace, selfishness,
egotism, immorality, meanness, melancholy, unhappiness of mind, paranoia, and fear of poison;
and gives an unreasonable, shameless, and egotistical nature. Since this star also falls in the 10 th
House of the chart, that of the President, these characteristics could apply either to whomever
was elected president in 1988 or to the concerns of voters impelling them to vote for one or
another of the candidates.
Princeps conjunct Mercury and Luna: Not much influence one way or the other when it comes to
these two planets and their placements in this chart.
Acrux conjunct the Part of Fortune: Acrux is the brightest star in the Southern Cross. It is actually a
triple-star system. It gives religious beneficence, ceremonies, justice, Magick, and mystery, and
is frequently prominent in the horoscopes of astrologers and occultists. Since here the Part of
Fortune is the Part of Misfortune (because it is in the 12 th), this may mean that behind-the-scenes
sorcery on behalf of unscrupulous people may influence this election or its outcome.
Alphecca conjunct Pluto: The star gives honor, dignity, and poetical and artistic ability. With Pluto,
one of the rulers of the chart, it may act as it does in conjunction with Mars, as an omen
unfavorable for gain. It could also signify a behind-the-scenes king-maker.
Agena conjunct the Ascendant: Agena gives advantageous position, friendship, refinement,
morality, health, and honor. It isn’t clear what this would have had to do with that election.
Acumen conjunct Uranus: Acumen affects the eyesight, and can cause blindness. In this chart,
Uranus rules the 3rd-House cusp and is in the 2 nd House, meaning that the public may be blind to
problems with the economy until it is too late to do anything about them, or that they are being
deliberately blinded by the media (3 rd House), or that the media are blind to critically important
things, or some combination of these.
Sinistra conjunct Uranus and Saturn: Doesn’t have much to do with the election one way or the
other.
Spiculum conjunct Saturn: Produces blindness. Another possible indication of unawareness on the
part of the public, the media, or both.
Facies conjunct Neptune: Facies, the nebula in the face of Sagittarius, causes blindness, defective
sight, sickness, accidents, and a violent death. Neptune rules behind-the-scenes and covert
actions, sabotage, string-pulling, deception, disinformation, etc. This could refer to government
or media cover-ups or manipulation of the public concerning the economy and related matters
(2nd House).

Initial considerations

Our national elections invariably take place on a Tuesday, ruled by Mars. The poles open at 7 a.m.
EST at Calais, Maine, where the first votes in the election are cast. At that time, Scorpio is rising and
the Sun is in the second (= later, eastern) half of the Twelfth House, so that the time is always in the first
hour (60-minute period) after dawn. Since the first hour after dawn of a given day of the week is ruled by
the planet ruling that day, that hour, like the chart itself, is therefore ruled by Mars and Pluto, which
happened to be in mutual reception with each other at the time (since both of Them rule/co-rule the signs
Aries and Scorpio, and Mars was in Aries, while Pluto was in Scorpio).
Capricorn is intercepted in the 2 nd House of this chart, Cancer in the 8 th. The Moon exactly conjoins
the 12th-House cusp, that is, with an orb of less than one degree. The Moon is separating from an exact
inconjunct (150°) to retrograde Jupiter.
Thelemic auspices: 11 is the number of Magick, Uranus, science, and revolution; 111 is the Number
of the Prophet of the New Aeon; 8 is the number of Mercury (Hermes-Djehuti, or Raphael). This
election took place on 11-08-88. i.e., 11/0888. This election took place 84 years after Crowley’s Cairo
Working, out of which came Liber al Vel Legis, or The Book of the Law; Uranus’ “year,” that is, the
time required for Him to return to a given celestial longitude, is 84 years. At the time of this election,
Uranus, which dominates the U.S. chart and rules liberty, revolution, science, Magick, and Native
America, had just returned to the longitude at which He stood at the time of the writing of The Book of
the Law. (On top of everything else, Aleister Crowley, who was born October 12, 1875, 11:30 p.m. UT
[Greenwich Time], at Leamington Spa, England [1° W 31’ longitude, 52° N 18’ latitude], had Uranus
rising in his natal horoscope.)

Interpretation of the chart

Capricorn rules government; Cancer rules the United States. Capricorn intercepted in the 2 nd shows
restrictions on government with respect to the national budget, or problems with the economy as a result
of federal action. Cancer intercepted in the 8 th House indicates restrictions on the United States itself in
the area of national debt and foreign-trade balances.
Saturn restricts, manifests, and makes things “heavy.” Uranus brings about revolution, breakdowns,
shakeups, earthquakes, and freedom, and is extremely prominent in the U.S. natal chart. When in a sign
of His detriment or fall, such as Capricorn, Neptune deceives, confuses, dissolves, murders, and attacks
the soul. All three of these Malefics together in Capricorn in the 2 nd House of finances predict
tremendous downturns in the US economy, as well as deception, fraud, restriction, oppression, and
upheaval, particularly in the area of the economy and the way in which it is affected by the government.
Scorpio on the cusps of both the 12 th and 1st Houses of the chart shows that the US is its own worst
enemy, especially when it comes to issues ruled by Scorpio, or that its people are being manipulated on
an unconscious level, e.g., via subliminal stimuli presented by television, radio, advertising, and other
media, into doing things against their best interests.
The 12th House of the horoscope rules covert activities of any kind, sabotage, murder, hidden
agendas, Hell, karma, past lives, dreams, nightmares, night-terrors, psychically received and transmitted
information, Black Magick and sorcery, stealth operations, ninjas, child abuse, skeletons in the closet,
hospitals, genetically caused diseases, and a number of other unpleasant things. For this reason, the Part
of Fortune in the 12th House – as it is here –presages ill-fortune.
The Part of Peril in the 10 th House, which rules government, may indicate that we would be in peril
from the government that was elected on November 9, 1988. This Arabian Part is in the sign Virgo,
which rules bureaucracies, indicating that this peril comes from large, faceless organizations and agencies
rather than individuals, that is, from middle managers rather than from the nation’s top executive levels
or Congress.
Jupiter in the 7th House means good fortune in the area of foreign affairs in general, and of Russia in
particular. But Jupiter is here retrograde, so that what it promises may turn out to be a lie. Mars, one of
the rulers of this chart, sextiles Jupiter, an omen of good fortune; but Mars is in the 4 th House, while
Pluto is in the 12th, and Jupiter is retrograde, so what seem at first to be omens of good fortune may turn
out to be otherwise.
However, Mars is in mutual reception with Pluto, and can therefore be moved to Pluto’s sign
(Scorpio) in His own original degree; to Pluto’s degree in His own original sign (Aries); to Pluto’s
degree in Pluto’s sign (hence conjunct Pluto); or left where He is, whichever is preferable. If we move
Him to his own degree in Pluto’s sign, Scorpio, this puts Him in the 11 th House of hopes, prayers, &
wishes; good fortune given by the Gods; occult lodges; friends; groups and associations; etc., thus
taking Him out of the 4th House and not putting him in the 12 th. Mars is a Malefic, and leaving Him in
the 12th House would signify even greater misfortune than that promised by the Part of Fortune in that
House.
We can do the same with Pluto, keeping Him in Scorpio, but moving him to Mars’ original degree,
hence making Him conjunct Mars in Scorpio in the 11 th. Pluto represents raw, primordial power,
especially political and technological power, and can present as either a Malefic or a Benefic depending
on His placement in a chart. Pluto represents a vast range of things both evil and good, including, e.g.,
the Mafia, death, regeneration, resurrection, transformation, transmutation, genetic mutations, Magickal
lodges, the Goddess Kali, the Bomb, the Archangel Michael, the Knights of the Order of St. George,
thermonuclear energy as found in the heart of the Sun, etc. By placing Him in the 11 th in Scorpio,
conjunct Mars, we take the nation out of peril from any action He might cause us, and make it possible
for Him to benefit the nation. This would come about via group associations, which would probably not
be based entirely in this country (otherwise Mars would remain in the 4 th House), and would to some
extent be Public (otherwise Mars and Pluto would be confined to the 12 th House).
Once this is done, the North Node of the Moon, which brings good fortune, which in this chart is in
the 4th House of outcomes, will tend to bring a happy conclusion to the outcome of this election.
However, the Moon’s South Node in the 10 th House will bring oppression, and the influence of the North
Node in the 4th House is offset by the Part of Fortune’s placemen t in the 12 th House. More sorrow than
joy will come about as a result of this election.
In this chart, Saturn is still in Sagittarius, less than a degree ahead of Uranus, Whom Saturn has just
conjoined, so that conjunction is still active (in event charts, separating aspects can still influence the
outcome). The period 1988-1992 will therefore be a time of high aspirations (Sagittarius) fulfilled in
various areas (Saturn manifests). It will also be a time of shakeups in Sagittarian areas such as
philosophy, science fiction, space technology and colonies, rock ’n’ roll, etc. Since Saturn and Uranus
are in the 2nd House of this chart, they will operate in the area of the economy, and make Their presence
felt throughout the nation in the near future, probably in the form of sudden sharp dips in the stock-
market and the economy, unexpected booms or busts, etc. Since They share that House with Neptune,
some of this economic and financial unpleasantness could be due to the actions of con-artists, scams, and
deceivers. Saturn joined Neptune in Capricorn in mid-November of 1988, and Uranus entered that sign
around the 2nd of December, 1988. At that time those two planets began to affect the U.S. government
and economy and the country as a whole in ways predicted by this chart.*

*As a matter of fact, it was during the Bush administration of 1988-1992 that the Savings & Loan crisis
and bailout occurred.
Throughout this election, the Moon was in the first half of Scorpio (except perhaps for Hawaii and
Guam, where the polls closed later than anywhere else). The first half of Scorpio together with the last
half of Libra forms the Via Combusta. Traditionally this area of the sky has been considered to be about
the worst place overall for the placement of any chart significator, especially the Moon. In that part of
the sky, the influence of the Moon, like that of the rulers of the chart and its subject, are at their weakest
and most volatile, behaving as if they were conjunct Uranus, presaging explosions, accidents, disasters,
crises, and utterly unexpected events of all kinds.
Also, during the last few hours of this national election, the Moon was within 8°30’ of the Sun,
applying to a New Moon condition. Any planet that close to the Sun and in the same sign as that
occupied by the Sun is considered to be combust, behaving as if it were in the Via Combusta, or failing to
have any effect at all. Since Luna rules all action in any chart, this is a particularly grim omen. The fact
that the Moon is in Scorpio during this election adds to the problem. Luna is in Her fall in Scorpio,
behaving at Her worst there. Because the Moon co-rules all horary and event charts, timing events by
progression through the chart just as transiting Saturn does, these things together predict tremendous
upheavals and disasters of various kinds as a result of this election.
In addition, in this chart the Moon** will soon enter the 12 th House and sextile Neptune, the ruler of
fraud, deception, and confusion, and of oil, gas, and the Navy;* conjoin Pluto, ruler of power, death,
metamorphosis, Kali, etc.; parallel Jupiter; conjoins the Sun (combust); then respectively parallel
Neptune, Saturn, and Uranus (parallels act like very strong conjunctions).

*It was in 1991, during the term in office of President George Bush, who was elected in this election, that
the Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, attacked Kuwait, setting Kuwaiti oil wells on fire and generally
wreaking havoc there. As a result of that, President Bush initiated Operation Desert Storm, the Gulf
War, liberating Kuwait and enabling experts to come in and cap the burning oil wells, putting out the
fires. Pluto, Elemental ruler of Fire, sextiles Neptune in this chart.

**The timing of events is indicated by the Moon’s placement, according to the formula

Angular houses Succeedent houses Cadent houses

Cardinal signs Days Weeks Months
Mutable signs Weeks Months Years
Fixed signs Months Years Time unknown

In the ephemeris, find the latitude of the significator. If it is without latitude (0°of latitude, as the
Sun always is, being right on the Ecliptic), the time denoted by the degree of aspect is accepted as
exact. When the significator is in north latitude, that is, north of the Ecliptic, the time is shortened,
but in south latitude, it is prolonged.
Timing may be judged by the House and sign the significator occupies, or, if not usable, by the
co-ruler Moon’s aspect to the significator, or by the actual distance between the ruler of the matter
inquired about and the ruler of the 4 th House (the end of the matter, signifying when the situation will
come to an end). When judging by the Moon’s applying aspects to planets, the arc separation in
degrees between the Moon and those planets gives the number of time-units before the thing
predicted comes to pass, while the nature of those time-units are shown by the Moon’s placement as
to House and sign, according to the table above.
In this case, the Moon is in the 11 th House, a succeedent House, and in Scorpio, a Fixed sign, so,
for example, it will take around four and a half years for the things predicted by the Moon’s coming
sextile to Neptune to come to pass.

The overall outlook for this chart isn’t good at all. Even with cooperation between Mars and Pluto
due to mutual reception, both planets are left in the Via Combusta (though this condition is ameliorated
to some extent by placement in the 11 th House). Whatever the public has hoped concerning this election,
they are unlikely to get it. And with the Part of Fortune in the 12 th House, things could get very bad
indeed. The economy would be likely to go to hell, the near future (relative to the time for which the
chart is erected) is likely to be hell, and there would be numerous hidden enemies behind the scenes
(signified by the Sun, Pluto in His original placement, and the Part of Fortune in the 12 th). The placement
of the Moon’s South Node and the Part of Peril in the 10 th indicates that the peril could come from
government itself. Foreign affairs look good but go terribly (Jupiter retrograde in the 7 th). And so it goes.
While something can be salvaged from this because of the Moon’s North Node in the 4 th House and
Mars in mutual reception with Pluto, the results of this election, as predicted by this chart, would be a
season in hell for most of us during the four years of the incumbency of whoever was elected president in
this election. The only ones likely to ride high during that time would either be opportunistic types or
Pollyannas. With Luna just separating from an exact inconjunct (the disaster aspect) to retrograde
Jupiter, exactly conjunct the 12th House cusp, and retrograde Jupiter ruling both the 2 nd House cusp
(finances, the economy, the near future, etc., presaging recessions, depressions, deception, and fraud in
these areas) and the 4th House cusp (grass-roots movements, the home, the nation itself, the outcome of
the chart), disasters in the areas of the economy, foreign affairs, and grass-roots activity, however hidden
they might have been, must have taken place just before this election. Attempts to make adjustments
(inconjunct) to head these off could make the situation far worse.
Fortunately, the Moon’s North Node exactly trines Pluto, one of the rulers of the chart, Who is thus
in the degree of the Nodes, which could act to preserve us from the worst. But even so, it would be wise
to be prepared for a time of great troubles, a time which could last much longer than four or even eight
years.
Finally, as far as predicting who would be likely to win this election, Jupiter represents the
Republican Party; Saturn represents the Democratic Party; and Uranus, the Libertarian Party. While the
Moon, Who initiates all action, makes no aspects to either of those two planets, She is not void-of-course,
so this election will be fairly important. However, Luna is in Scorpio, Under the Sunbeams (within 17.5°
of the Sun, though not combust, i.e., within 8.5° of the Sun), and in the 11 th House, the House of Her
accidental nocturnal mundane detriment. So all Her action and its effects here will be very weak, and
regardless of who is elected now, that administration may ultimately come to nothing.
The rulers of the Ascendant, which is in Scorpio, are Pluto and Mars. Pluto aspects nothing, but is
conjoined by Luna; Luna rules Cancer, which is intercepted in the 8 th House, so this election’s results
will have a great deal to do with taxes, insurance, possibly a death (for example, a candidate who is
elected may die right after the election, or a candidate may die just before the election, etc.), corporate
affairs, Social Security, and other 8 th-House matters. Chiron’s placement in the 8 th House means that
these issues are not brand-new; this will be a rehashing of old issues that come up again and again and
again.
Mars, the other ruler of the chart, does sextile Jupiter and makes no aspect to Saturn, so the
President-elect is likely to be a Republican, and it may be that as a result of the election, there is a
majority of Republicans in Congress. Before Mars sextiles Jupiter, however, Mercury will make an
inconjunct (150° aspect) to Jupiter, not enough to nullify the effects of Mars’ aspect to Jupiter, but
enough to damage it. So while the Republicans will likely win this election, their position will be
damaged in some way, or it will deteriorate over the four years following this election, perhaps leading to
a Democratic administration in 1992.
