Department of Mechanical Engineering
Introduction
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the academic year 200506 which enrolled 60 students. An additional intake of 60 (total 120 students) was sanctioned in
the academic year 2013-14.The department is accredited by NBA from the July2014 onwards,
and is headed by Dr.R.Mohankumar who has 33 years of teaching experience and 6 years of
industrial experience. The department has a group of 20 well qualified and experienced
Professors and dynamic young staff who hold their master degrees in their area of interest from
renowned institutions. Among them, three members of faculty have obtained their Ph.D. and
eight others are now pursuing. The staffs have published papers in their research domains and
two faculty members are recognized as supervisors to guide doctoral candidates in ANNA
University. Two faculty members have obtained reviewer status in national and international
journals. The department has full-fledged and well established laboratory facilities.

Vision
The Vision of the Department is to develop the Mechanical Engineering Department
comparable with world class Institutions, by creating centers of excellence in the field of
Manufacturing Engineering and promoting Entrepreneurship with Value-based teaching
learning process.

Mission

Imparting quality education to the students and enhancing their skills to make them high
quality Mechanical Engineers.

To provide state of art research facilities for the students to enhance their technical
knowledge for the development of industry.

Create links with world class educational institutions and R&D organizations to excel in
research and serve the community.

A systematic process is planned for designing and development of curriculum. The
curriculum is designed and offered to address the challenges and opportunities of dynamic needs
of industry. Review mechanism to understand the requirements of industry is planned. Feedback
from leading industries, academicians, stake holders(Students, parents and faculty), alumni are
going to consider to improve the curriculum and syllabus.

2. To introduce PG program and research program


Mechanical department is planned to introduce PG programmes and research program to
uphill the quality of department and escalate the research work. The specialization area for PG
program is identified based on the feedback and analysis. The analysis will help to identify the
