Classroom Learning Profile based on observations and data

Use readings and EDUC 202 self-reflection assignments from the past to describe your placement class:
Nieto & Bode; Understanding Culture Brief; Hoeksema; Pearson 202 custom textbook; Barringer, Pohlman, & Robinson
Although the school is very ethnically diverse, the school strives to teach dominant cultural values,
such as wisdom, responsibility, etc.
Culture

Diversity is valued within this school. Flags hang in the hallways to represent all of the different
countries that their students come from. The school is very ethnically diverse.

Attention & Memory

Parents with-in this school system must be more involved. Many children are dropped off at school by
their parents. Parents also attend school-wide award ceremonies, field-trips, sporting events, and other
school hosted functions. Although the students come from a very wide array of backgrounds, it seems
that their families are very supportive despite the possible struggles happening in their homes.

It is a public (charter) school, so it is not allowed to promote/establish any religion. It does, however,
promote moral-values, such as kindness, responsibility, etc.

There are a wide range of strengths and weaknesses within the school. Some students whose strengths
lie within the construct of attention and memory are placed within the honors classes, while those who
struggle in these areas are placed in under-proficient classes.
In my class some students struggle with attention, and have been labeled ADD, while others struggle
with long-term memory or working memory.

There are a wide range of strengths and weaknesses within the school. Some students whose strengths
lie within the construct of language are placed within the honors classes, while those who struggle in
these areas are placed in under-proficient classes or ELL pull-out classes.
Language

Motor &
Spatial/Sequential
Ordering

In my class many students have strengths in language output, but struggle with input. (I think that this
could be due to the schools emphasis on fluency and accuracy and less on comprehension
techniques.)

There are a wide range of strengths and weaknesses within the school. Some students whose strengths
lie within the construct of motor and spatial ordering are placed within the honors classes, while those
who struggle in these areas are placed in under-proficient classes.
In my class many students also have strengths in motor functions, as many are athletes or artists.

Higher Order Thinking

There are a wide range of strengths and weaknesses within the school. Some students whose strengths
lie within the construct of higher order thinking are placed within the honors classes, while those who
struggle in these areas are placed in under-proficient classes. Some students are more creative than
others.
Students are clearly tracked based upon their abilities and strengths. Those with disabilities are given
supports such as Para pros, but they are often seen in the classrooms as deficient.

Ability & Disability

In my class there are currently no para pros, however, this does not mean that there are not students
with disabilities.
