Available in two low profile variant
options, the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR-a
has a compact, highly modular design.
The 7750 SR-a4 measures 5RU (22 cm)
in height and the 7750 SR-a8 is 7RU
(31 cm) in height. Both variants have
full system redundancy on all common
equipment and all components are
modular and hot-swappable to ensure
maximum system uptime and future
upgradeability.

Alcatel-Lucent FP3 NP silicon

At the heart of the 7750 SR-a is the
Alcatel- Lucent fully programmable FP3
NP silicon. FP3 network processors enable
line interfaces to scale efficiently to
100 Gb/s, while concurrently supporting
processing-intensive services without
performance impact. The programmability
of FP3 ensures the 7750 SR-a can adapt
quickly to new features and protocols with
unmatched investment protection.

High-density, high-speed
networking
With class-leading 100GE, 40GE, 10GE and
GE interface density, the 7750 SR-a can
scale aggregation networks in step with
changing bandwidth requirements and
evolving traffic demands for years to come.
It is unique in its ability to support 40GE
and 100GE interfaces today in a platform
with this small footprint. Its compact
form-factor makes it ideal to right-size
aggregation and services at various points
of concentration within the metro network.
With sophisticated QoS mechanisms, along
with ample forwarding and connection
dimensioning, the 7750 SR-a has the
service scale to converge mobile, business
and residential services on a single
platform, extending the network edge
closer to the end users.

Enhanced subscriber awareness

The ESM capabilities of the 7750 SR-a
allow for a highly distributed subscriberand service-awareness architecture.
For residential services, subscriber
management can be moved closer to
the end user. Business services become
dynamic, where an instantiated node
triggers the configuration process to
a RADIUS server. ESM also provides
awareness of connected nodes and hosts
and their connectivity state and awareness
of subscriber sessions for enhanced
security. Extensive RADIUS interface
capabilities simplify operations with
reduced configuration on the nodes and
more interaction with the RADIUS server.

Advanced Hierarchical QoS

The Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR-a provides
sophisticated and highly flexible traffic
management capabilities to deliver the
most stringent SLAs and to support the
rigors of service convergence. These
include Hierarchical Quality of Service
(H-QoS) with multi-tiered shaping, ingress
and egress queuing, queue groups, virtual
schedulers, QoS filters and granular
pre-classification.

Highly resilient operating system

The Alcatel-Lucent SR OS is a highly
fault-tolerant and feature-rich operating
system that operates across the entire
Alcatel-Lucent Service Router portfolio.
With a single operating system across all
platforms, operators can be assured of
feature consistency, reliable operations
and cohesive management integration
when deploying Carrier Ethernet VPN,
IP VPN, Internet services, ESM and
mobile backhaul.

High availability

Operational savings

More than just redundant common

equipment, the 7750 SR-a supports
numerous SR OS features to minimize
service disruption. These features include
control plane resiliency with proven
non-stop routing and non-stop services
mechanisms. It also supports service
assurance and monitoring tools across IP,
MPLS and Ethernet domains.

By aggregating services on a 7750 SR-a,

network operations are simplified because
all services run over one platform with a
consistent feature set, operational model
and management. In addition, the 7750
SR-a has numerous features for automated
provisioning of subscribers and services
based on service templates. Other features
allow interaction with operational systems
for authentication, authorization and billing
so that the need for individual, manual
service provisioning is all but eliminated.

Optical integration
For IP-optical integration applications
requiring collocation with transport
equipment, the 7750 SR-a4
and 7750 SR-a8 fit into a 300 mm
ETSI-compliant cabinet. As well, the 5620
SAM provides cross-layer visibility and
common management tools to simplify
operations of a converged IP and optical
network.

Service-aware network
management
The 7750 SR-a is managed by the
5620 SAM for assured, simplified and
integrated operations across both network
and service management domains. The
5620 SAM is designed to manage services
and provide service-level visibility into
the network for small- and large-scale
service deployments. The Alcatel-Lucent
management offering includes additional
tools such as the Alcatel-Lucent 5650
Control Plane Assurance Manager (CPAM),
and the Alcatel-Lucent 5670 Reporting
and Analysis Manager (RAM), which work
in conjunction with the 5620 SAM.

BENEFITS
Service innovation
Service differentiation is the key to
unlock new revenue streams and to
protect against price erosion. The AlcatelLucent 7750 SR-a supports subscriber
and service awareness and can be used
to provide differential QoS treatment
of higher value traffic streams and
manage the user experience. Delivering
a superior quality of experience (QoE)
for certain applications and metering
them separately for billing permit tiered
pricing for different levels of service. An
extensive service assurance capability
with proactive SLA enforcement provides
the ability to continuously monitor and
measure traffic end to end.

Investment protection
The 7750 SR-a inherits sophisticated and
flexible hardware designs, which has a
track record of allowing new features and
enhancements to be introduced in-place
in software, rather than through a series
of ever-changing hardware iterations.
Alcatel-Lucent FP3 NP silicon technology
ensures the 7750 SR-a throughput capacity,
and service scale can continually evolve
in step with customer requirements, while
maximizing investment protection.

Environmentally friendly
Pioneering advances in power efficiency
are incorporated into each member of
the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR-a family,
reducing the expense of both powering
and cooling when comparing products
with less advanced silicon technology.
