After winning the annual SUNYAC tournament, Cortland softball earned the right to host the NCAA Division III Regionals. The tournament will be held May 8-10 at Dragon Field (Cortland, NY). If Cortland can win the regionals tournament, they will move forward on their quest to claim the NCAA Division III World Series trophy. Cortland will host three other teams travelling from different states. Heidelberg University, Neumann University, and DeSales University will come to Cortland looking to upset #1 seed Cortland. The first game will be held Friday May 8th at 1pm with Heidelberg versing Neumann. The next games will start Saturday May 9th at noon. Brackets are yet to be determined until Fridays game takes place. The championship round will be held at noon on Sunday, May 10th. The winner of regionals will head to Alfred, NY (site to be determined) to battle it out from May 15-16 in super regionals. This will be Cortlands 20th NCAA appearance. Under the reign of 21st-year head coach Julie Lenhart the Red Dragons have advanced to the World Series seven times. In the most recent year, 2013, Cortland was the national runner-up. When asked about her continued success Lenhart shared, I can only do so much, the players each year continue to show their dedication to the sport and themselves. They want it just as bad as I do. The NCAA Division III World Series will be held in Salem, VA. SUNY Cortland was founded in 1868 and was one of the founding members of the State University of New York. Over the past two decades, they have the most nationally successful intercollegiate athletic programs between both men and womens sports. SUNY Cortland is one of six colleges to have finished every year among the Top 25 NCAA Division III programs. In total, Cortland has won 25 national titles. Cortland hosted the New York Jets training camp from 2009-2014.
