Student Learning Objectives:
The students will compare and contrast the characters in the book by
identifying their characteristics and also by looking at their interactions
with other the other characters.
a) This lesson uses the students prior knowledge of characters and
conflict in stories. This lesson will prepare students to be able to
identify different characteristics of characters.
Assessment
I will see if the students met the SLO by first using Padlet to see
if they understand what characteristics are.

Smart Board

Classroom Learning Environment Focus

The students will sit at their desks as I teach the lesson.
The students will sit quietly and raise their hands.
Lesson Plan
a. Initiation
I will get the students excited about the lesson by first talking about
the story. I will ask the students who their favorite characters from
the book were and why.
b. Sequence of Learning Activities/questions/transitions
After the initiation I will write character traits on the board.
o Under it I will write that traits describe the characters
personality.
o I will ask the students to think about how the characters
in the book behave.
Next I will explain that traits are different than emotions.
o Emotions describe how a character feels at a certain
time, not all the time.
I will ask the students to think about character traits for
Charlie.
Then traits for Mr. Wonka, and the other characters.
Next, I will ask the students to go to Padlet One.
o Here I will ask them to write their name and character
traits for Charlie and the other characters.
o By doing this I can see which students understand the
lesson and which students do not.
Next, once I think that the students are meeting the SLO, I will
show them my example thinglink.
o I will click on only the black circles.
o I will explain that the red circles will be completed next
class.
The students will then create their own Thinglink using this
link.
o The students must use the example picture, or another
picture of all five children from the story.
o The students will have a character trait listed for each
character and the reason why the character has that
trait.
c. Closure

To wrap up the lesson the students will share the Thinglink

that they created with a neighbor.
I will remind the students that we will be adding to the
thinglink next class.
They will need to save the url of their thinglink.
o To do this the students will post the url of their thinglink
to Padlet Two.
