Mime Unit Plan 2

Rational
Through the study of mime the student can develop a better understanding of their own
body and how to use it as a means of communication. (Goal 1 and 2) Through studying the
discipline the student has the opportunity to develop a new, physical approach to creative
thinking and to understand the discipline as an art form. (Goal 3) Through exploration and
performance of mime the student can enhance, experience and receive feedback on their ability
to communicate through body language efficiently.
Unit Objective
The mime unit is structure to scaffold to the Creation and Performance of a comic solo
piece with an appropriate title. In order to accomplish this task, the students will need to have
experience with the basics of mime, both through practice and visually dissecting professional
performances, an understanding of the breakdown of a mime performance and its elements, and
how to create a scene from various sources of inspiration.

-Clear the classroom space.
-Have outline, and checklist available and ready to go for class.

PROCEDURE
Introduction

-Welcome the students to the class. Greet each student by name.


-Have the students stand in a circle.
-Visually do attendance.
-Hand out expectations sheet. Discuss each point briefly.

- Freeze the students and explain Adam (See Unit Appendix).


- Play a few times.
- Introduce Make Shapes (See Unit Appendix).
-Play a few different shapes. Ex.) Rocket, Snake, Stop sign, Pyramid, X.
Walk Around Objects-Have the students walk around the classroom and coach them on the
steps to mime interacting with an object.
-Objects: Marble, Banana, Dictionary, Water jug, Building.
-Have the students form a class circle.
-Have a discussion about weight, size, consistence, texture, and how the
body interacts with the object.

-Ask the students to switch objects every so often
Simple Task Mime
-Students are to create and perform a mime of a task from their everyday
life, such as using a door.
-10 minute rehearsal
-15 minute of performances and feedback.

-Ask about input for Shed the Mask show.
-Back up closure activity: Group Mirror.
