A PROPOSED TRAUMA CAPABLE CENTER

DESIGN CONCEPT:
Innovative planning design + Re-conceptualization = Future of Philippine
Specialized hospitals
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:
All building should not only meet the needs of its users but it should be a design of
space that contains, cuddles, exalts and stimulates the person in that space.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES
To design a trauma center that specialized support programs for emergency services
personnel.
To plan a trauma center that will incorporate a design that gives psychological first
aid for first responders after critical incidents.
To be able to layout a structure that will security to its patients and other users.
To be able to create a good circulation within the users and other elements affecting
the site.
To be able to incorporate the concept of sustainability to the design by the use of low
maintenance but durable building materials
to be able to create a Welcoming Environment within the site
to be able to create a patient centered trauma center that Eliminate disparities in
the quality of care for minorities, the poor, the aged and the mentally ill
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:
Accessibility - Maximizing the access throughout the development for more
convenience for the patients
Zoning - Considering the required guidelines from DOH for different zones of the
project
Security - The development must be secured at all times for the protection of
patients as well as the employees and specialists
Therapeutic Environment - Open spaces and natural surroundings must be
implemented to achieve effective and efficient therapeutic environment
Circulation - Interior spaces must accommodate variations of movements and a
massive amount of people
Users taking into consideration the needs of its future users
Wayfinding- patients and other users must be able to easily navigate a facility of
find their way.
Flexibility and Expandability- For large projects, this provides continuing
adaptability to changing programs and needs, with no first-cost premium, if properly
planned, designed, and bid. Be open-ended, with well planned directions for future
expansion; for instance positioning "soft spaces" such as administrative
departments, adjacent to "hard spaces" such as clinical laboratories.
Cleanliness and Sanitation- Hospitals must be easy to clean and maintain.
Controlled Circulation- A hospital is a complex system of interrelated functions
requiring constant movement of people and goods. Much of this circulation should be
controlled.
Aesthetics- It is important in enhancing the hospital's public image and is thus an
important marketing tool. A better environment also contributes to better staff
morale and patient care.

Sustainability - Hospitals are large public buildings that have a significant impact
on the environment and economy of the surrounding community. They are heavy
users of energy and water and produce large amounts of waste. Because hospitals
place such demands on community resources they are natural candidates
for sustainable design.
Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness- An efficient hospital layout should Promote
staff efficiency by minimizing distance of necessary travel between frequently used
spaces, Allow easy visual supervision of patients by limited staff, Provide an efficient
logistics system, which might include elevators, pneumatic tubes, box conveyors,
manual or automated carts, and gravity or pneumatic chutes, for the efficient
handling of food and clean supplies and the removal of waste, recyclables, and
soiled material, Make efficient use of space by locating support spaces so that they
may be shared by adjacent functional areas, and by making prudent use of multipurpose spaces.
