In recent years, having babies later in life has become an increasingly popular decision. Resulting from a
number of reasons, this situation can make some considerable impacts on both family life and society.
There are several reasons why people refuse to give birth when they are young and wait until they get
older. Firstly, some individuals consider that building their own career is the top priority, above
embarking on parenthood. If they split their time between working and rearing their offspring when they
are at the early stage of their career, it might affect their concentration, which results in the difficulty of
getting promotion or a high-salary job. Secondly, deferment of having babies gives young people
opportunities to enjoy life. For example, this choice helps couples spend their time on improving their
social life and pursuing their passionate.
However, this tendency might bring some negative effects on both family life and society. The first
impact is that due to a significant age gap between two generations, child nurturing could be a huge
challenge for older parents. Even though they have a good economic situation, as well as great experience
and knowledge, it is not easy for them to communicate and understand their infants. Furthermore, having
children when people are too old is potentially harmful for the health of mother and child. Specifically,
this tendency increases a woman's chances of untoward outcomes, such as stillbirth and miscarriage,
while her child can face the risk of getting Down's syndrome. This affects sharply the quality of workfoce
in the future.
In conclusion, there are some evident reasons for this trend which represents adverse influence on family
happiness and social development.

However, this tendency could have negative effects in terms of both family life and society. An
important effect for a family is that raising children could be a huge challenge for older parents. Even
though they have high socioeconomic status, as well as great experience and knowledge, it is not easy for
them to communicate with and relate to their children, due to the generation gap. Another impact is that
getting pregnant after 35 years of age carries more potential health risks. Specifically, this could increase
the danger of miscarriage for older mothers and stillbirth, while babies could be at greater risk of having
Downs syndrome. Consequently, this could negatively affect the quality of the workforce in times to
come.
In conclusion, there are a number of evident reasons for the trend in which people prefer giving birth
late. As a result, this could negatively influence each family and all the society.
