Project Introduction/Handout
After the presentation of part one of MLA Format, students will participate in a class
discussion where they will ask questions. Teachers will offer clarification on whatever is not
understood. A hand out will be distributed that introduces the upcoming project to the
students. This hand out breaks down the project into three major steps for completion and
includes a rubric and self assessment. Teachers will explain that the expectations and inform
students that they will be allowed class time to work on this each day. They are also
expected to work on their own outside of class as well.

Rubric /Self Assessment (Scroll to bottom)
This rubric will help guide students on what is expected of them upon submission of
the assignment. This will be distributed as the project is introduce. There is also a self
assessment attached, where students answer questions assessing their own performance.

Socrative Quiz
This quiz will be distributed following the presentation of the TedEd Talk on The
Power of Simple Words. The purpose of this is to ensure that students were engaged in the
short video and took away critical points that will help better their project.

Parenthetical Mini Lesson


This lesson is accompanied by a handout to further explain the ins and outs of
parenthetical citations. It will be given the day following the completion of the MLA format
presentation.

SPED Rubric
This rubric will be used to assess special education students who have writing goals
documented on their Individualized Education Plans. The project will ultimately be assessed
using the general education rubric. This is to simply monitor the progress on their writing
goals given their present level performance.

Electronic Material

Quizlet
Students are only tested on 1-10 for this weeks lesson. Here is a list of the first
thirty words of that I have completed. The students will look similar to this. On day one,
class will begin with students using their personal cellular devices or class tablet to create
flashcards for the weeks ten vocabulary words using Quizlet. Quizlet is an application that
can be accessed by going to quizlet.com or downloading the app. Students will sign in using
their Gmail account provided to them by the school. Once the login is successful students
will click the create tab, where they will type the word in the left box and the definition of
that word in the right box. Once students have done this for all ten words they will click
save.

Vocabulary Word List


This is a list of the first ten vocabulary words that students will be tested on this
week. Students
will only see the words and use this list as reference to look up definitions.

MLA Format Presentation via Prezi
After completing the flashcards, students will prepare to take notes on a PowerPoint
presentation delivered by both classroom teachers. The PowerPoint is created using Prezi
and will be presented via desktop and projector on to the white board. This is special
presentation software that helps bring instructional material to life. It is accessed via
Google Classroom, so that students may go back and review it if they wish on their own
time.

The Power of Simple Words
This video will be shown to the classroom on the third day of the lesson. The goal is
for students to understand the importance of using simple words to convey a clearer
message rather than long, fancy words. Students are informed prior to watching the video
that there will be a quiz that will follow.

This website will be one of two that students are instructed to use when conducting research
on their essay topic. This will ensure that sources that are selected are scholarly and
credible.

This website is the second of two that students are instructed to use when

Kahoot It!
This will be used to help the class review on day four for the vocabulary quiz on day
five. Students only test on first ten words.Students will access the Kahoot! Application by
typing in the weblink kahoot.it on the cellular devices or classroom tablets. This a free
game-based learning platform made from a series of multiple choice questions. Once they
are on the webpage they will type in the Game PIN as shown on the projector. Once
students are logged into the quiz, they will type their names and once it pops up on the
screen with the rest of their classmates. Once the entire class is logged in, the teacher will
start the quiz. Questions pop up one by one on the projector and the students answer on
their devices by tapping the correct color. The students that score in the top five rankings
will receive extra credit on their quiz.

Current Issues
This is a list of current issues that will help students begin to brainstorm about their
topic. They can choose from the ones provided or pick their own, as long as it is approved
by the teacher.

This is a list of historical figures who the students consider to be a hero, that will help
