Privacy Issues with Social
Networking
TYPE OF SOCIAL
NETWORKING SITES:
FACEBOOK
Facebook is a social networking
website where you can add friends,
create a personal profile for yourself
which friends, family, or everyone can
view, where others can update their
own profiles themselves and notify
friends about their personal or
general information.
MYSPACE
Myspace is also a social networking
site where one can create a personal
profile for others to view, and privacy
settings can also be altered
determined on one's preferences.
FORMSPRING
Formspring is a social networking
site in which questions can be
written to a specific person
anonymously and answered or
deleted by the person’s page the
question was entitled to. It is also
linked to facebook and twitter so
that others can view one's
Formspring and ask various
questions.
TWITTER
Twitter is another social networking
and microblogging service where one
can send and receive messages
among users. Also, twitter is a site
where you can follow others' posts,
or blogs, of whomever they desire,
unless rejected by the user who had
been requested to follow.
NING
Ning is an online platform (type of
social network) which allows people
to create their own social networks
which others can view based on
preference or friend exceptions.

NETWORKING SITE?
"A social network service
focuses on building and reflecting
of social networks or social
relations among people, who
share interests and/or activities. A
social network service essentially
consists of a representation of
each user (often a profile), his/her
social links, and a variety of
additional services. Most social
network services are web based
and provide means for users to
interact over the internet, such as
e-mail and instant messaging.
Although online
community services are
sometimes considered as a social
network service in a broader
sense, social network service
usually means an individual-
centered service whereas online
community services are group-
centered. Social networking sites
allow users to share ideas,
activities, events, and interests
within their individual
networks."

CONCERNS
ON SOCIETY
Internet privacy concerns
are based on the information that
is shared, how much trust you put
into the social networking site,
your own development of new
relationships and how much you
trust other members of this social
network.
Some concerns society has
about revealing consumers
privacy are that people using
social networks will back down. If
these users cut back on using
social networks due to loss of
personal information, the people
operating these sites lose customer
interest and that brings the site
down. Recently, although several
people are having trouble with the
new social networking technology
upgrades, social networks have
been working very hard to
simplify privacy options and give
the customers more options as to
which information they share
with all the other users of the site,
or even just their friends among
the site.
