Come and celebrate the Spirit of Speyside its whisky, people, food, music,
heritage and culture.
From Thursday 30th April until Monday 4th May 2015, distilleries, shops,
bars, pubs and entire villages welcome visitors with malt whiskies, special
tastings, great food, ceilidhs and a wide variety of other entertaining
events. There are also free events and events hosted by local communities.

Welcome to Whisky Month
Whisky Month
Whisky Month is a key element of the year, taking place
in May 2015 and inviting visitors and locals to sample
Scotlands national drink and explore the subtle blend of
stories and provenance behind our vast array of marvellous
malts.
From the glorious grandeur of Whisky Stramash (24th &
25th May) at Edinburghs Surgeons Hall, to the spectacular
surroundings at the Spirit of Speyside Festival, a unique
series of events is on offer celebrating the water of life.
Visitors and local people are invited to take part in the
celebrations and pay homage to Scotlands famous drink,
as well as enjoy the countrys other world-class offerings
from quality, locally-sourced food to traditional music and
a rich culture.

Drink Scotland 2015
Scotlands fantastic natural larder is always worth celebrating as

the country yields some of the best food and drink in the world.
Following Homecoming 2014, this year will serve up a year-long
programme of events and festivals that will showcase Scotlands
outstanding produce and cuisine.
The campaign is being led by VisitScotland and EventScotland
with the support of Scotland Food & Drink and other partner
organisations.
From artisan cheeses and world-renowned whiskies, to succulent
seasonal berries and Arbroath Smokies, there is an abundance of

The final judging session takes place before the

Closing Ceilidh at the Laichmoray Hotel, Elgin, on
Sunday 3rd May 2015. The judging session starts
at 18.30 and the dancing begins at 19.30. This is
a not to be missed event, celebrating the 2015
Festival, our great Speyside Malts and of course,
when the winners of the Whisky Awards 2015 will
be revealed.
Best New Event

The Sound of Aberlour
Members of the public can now learn the secrets of

this mixology art form by taking part in a whisky cocktail
masterclass.
A tasting event with a difference as five distinct whiskies

from Aberlour Distillery are paired with five equally
diverse pieces of music to create an expressive story all
of its own.
The afternoon will involve tasting four of the hotels

whisky cocktails before learning to make them.
Participants will then get the chance to put their newfound skills into action and compete for a cocktailthemed prize by working in a team to create a new
malt-infused drink.
Aberlour Distillery: Thursday 30th April

& Friday 1st May, 3.30pm - 4.30pm
Tracks from legendary musicians Pink Floyd and Johnny

Cash will feature alongside renowned malts such as the
now rare Aberlour-Glenlivet eight-year-old from the
1960s.
The event is the brainchild of ex-music industry
professionals turned drinks writers and presenters Joel
Harrison and Neil Ridley. The aim is to highlight the
similarities between making a great whisky and a great
record.
The bespoke playlist for the tasting event will be available
to access and enjoy at home via Spotify
Cooking with Malt Whisky Demonstrations

Martine Nouet: Friday 1st May 10am, 1pm & 3pm
Martine Nouet, internationally renowned French food

and drinks journalist and whisky connoisseur, will teach
three masterclasses on the art of pairing Scottish cuisine
with the perfect malt.
The demonstrations will take place at Oakwood Cookery
School on the outskirts of Elgin, and consists of three
courses.
We will start with tasting the Speyside single malt
chosen to enhance the dish. We will then go through the
principles of pairing food and whisky and cooking with
whisky, Martine explained. I will demonstrate the dish
and of course you will be welcome to taste it when it is
cooked. I will give you the recipe before you leave.
Whisky Cocktail Masterclass
The Dowans Hotel: Friday 1st May, 2pm - 4pm

Putting whisky into cocktails is not something that
everyone would think possible or even a good idea, but
the Dowans Hotel in Aberlour has been creating a tasty
range of dram-based drinks for some time.
Question Time with

The Glenlivet Master Distiller
The Glenlivet Distillery: Saturday 2nd May,

10.45am - 12.15pm and 1.30pm - 3.pm
Alan Winchester has been master distiller at The
Glenlivet since 2009 and this year he will celebrate 40
years in the whisky-making industry.
He is highly regarded by his peers and regularly
approached to share his vast knowledge and experience
with colleagues from around the world.
Whisky enthusiasts will be able to ask him about aspects
of the industry and his personal interest in the history
of distilling during a question time event in the historic
Warehouse One.
Participants will also have the opportunity to try rare and
special single malts of The Glenlivet aged 25, 30 and 40
years.
The Great Speyside Bake O
The Whisky Shop Dufftown:

Saturday 2nd May, 2.30pm - 3.30 pm
The Whisky Shop Dufftown is running a competition to
find the best Speyside whisky-inspired muffin or cupcake.
The tasting event will take place in St James Hall and be
hosted by store owner Mike Lord, who will decide the
best entry from the specially selected finalists.
The muffin or cupcake must either be made to pair with
a specific Speyside dram, contain the whisky in the recipe
or be inspired by the malt in some way.
The winning baker will win a two-night stay at the
Dowans Hotel in Aberlour, a special distillery tour and
cookery class at the Oakwood Cookery School in Elgin.

Vouchers
The Festival promotes responsible
drinking and we are delighted to provide
subsidised transport to help visitors get
around this rural area.
Festival taxi vouchers have a face value of
5 and can be purchased online or at the
Festival Information Hubs, for just 3.50.
They can be used as payment of a taxi fare
with one of the many participating taxi
companies listed. All travel arrangements
should be made directly with the taxi
operators.
