LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH V


March 10, 2014
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, each Grade V pupil will be able to:
a. differentiate direct discourse from indirect discourse; and
b. transform direct to indirect discourse or vice versa.

Whispering Game (Message Relay)
1. Ask all the participants to form a circle. The facilitator also takes
a place in this circle.
2. The facilitator then whispers a message to one neighboring
person.
3. The message will now be passed round the circle by whispering
to the next person and the next, until it reaches the last person
at the other end of the circle (just before the facilitator).
4. Ask the last person to say the sentence aloud.

5. Ask the first person who received the message from the
facilitator if the message is correct.
6. Ask several persons of the circle in order to trace the changes.
7. Discuss the activity.
D. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher will let the students differentiate direct discourse
from indirect discourse.
2. The teacher will elicit some examples of direct and indirect
discourse from the class using a matrix.

Reporting
1. The students will be divided into (7) seven groups. Each group
will be given sentence strips. They will transform the given
statements into direct to indirect discourse or vice versa.
2. Each group will choose a representative to present and to report
their output using a strategy called Jigsaw Puzzle.
Note: The group activity will be graded by scoring rubrics.
F. Generalization
The students will write what have they learned about direct and
indirect discourses through a one-minute paper.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Directions: Read the situation below. Underline the direct discourse once and
the indirect discourse twice.
Romy was the youngest child in the family. His parents,
brothers and sister were telling him many things to do one
Saturday. Father said, Study your lessons before watching TV.
Mother said that he would have to wash the dishes first. Brother
Ronnie said, Help me look for my project, Romy. His other
brother asked if he could repair his cellphone. Sister Liza said,
Please color my art works for me, Romy.
