COMMUNICATION

CONFLICT RESOLUTION
The guidelines below are intended to facilitate conflict resolution in an orderly manner. These
guidelines are based on Jesus words in Matthew 18. It is recommended to attempt conflict
resolution at the earliest stage possible. Repeated meetings may be required to fully
resolve the conflict.
Discuss the matter directly with the individual(s) involved in a respectful manner at an
appropriate time. It is strongly recommended that students seek the advice of a responsible
adult (parent, teacher, counselor, or administrator) in order to discuss the matter in a respectful
manner and to seek appropriate timing. The parent(s) of a student should never confront
another student without prior consent from the other students parent(s).
If Step 1 does not bring resolution to an issue, meet with the individual(s) directly involved in a
respectful manner at an appropriate time with others present. This meeting would usually
include the direct supervisor of any school personnel involved (Refer to Sequence of
Communication). In a conflict between students, this would include a parent, teacher, or an
administrator.
If resolution has not been reached, meet together with additional resources. These resources will
include parents and the Principal and/or designee. This stage should be reached as a last resort.
All decisions rendered by the Principal will be final.

MEANS OF COMMUNICATION
Email
At the start of the school year, students will be provided a school-issued email address for use
with other school/class activities. School news and information will be communicated via email to
parents and students; as a result, it is essential that parents provide updated and current contact
information.
A faculty and staff email directory is available on the school website. Email is generally the best
means to contact teachers to schedule a conference. Parents and students should send a follow
up email or contact the school receptionist to ensure receipt of correspondence if they have not
received a response by the end of the following school day.

Posters/Advertisements
Any student or group wishing to post or distribute notices or advertisements of any kind on
school property must present them in advance to the Director or Associate Director of Student
Activities for approval. Postings without approval will be removed and discarded.

SEQUENCE OF COMMUNICATION
In an effort to promote personal responsibility, students are encouraged to first discuss all
questions and concerns with the teacher, coach or involved party before progressing to the next
step that includes parental involvement. Direct and respectful communication with the parties
involved yields the best results. However, there are times when additional support and
resources may be necessary (Refer to Conflict Resolution). The following sequence of
communication is intended to facilitate quick and efficient response with the ultimate goal being
resolution, as the school and parents partner together in the best interest of our students:
