SMN6197 & SMN6200 Fluid Mechanics (2015)

Content SMN6197

Introduction to Fundamental of Fluid Mechanics: fluid characteristics, elementary fluid dynamics, fluid
kinematics, differential analysis of fluid flow, flow over immersed bodies, lift & drag, differential analysis
of fluid flow, dimensional analysis, similitude & modeling, viscous flow in pipes, turbomachines and
ventilation & pressure distribution in buildings.
Student project - Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): The students are going to
investigate a fluid flow problem using numerical simulations and to make the necessary documentation
and reporting from the project.
Topic selected by the students in collaboration with lecturer.
A draft report-format will be available.

SMN6197 & SMN6200 Fluid Mechanics (2015)

Content SMN6200

1. Introduction to Fundamental of Fluid Mechanics: fluid characteristics, elementary fluid dynamics,

fluid kinematics, flow over immersed bodies, lift & drag and differential analysis of fluid flow.
2. Student project - Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): The students are going to
investigate a given fluid flow problem using numerical simulations and to make the necessary
documentation and reporting from the project.
The student project includes;
Preliminary problem analysis
Selection of parameters for the fluid flow model
Numerical simulations
Post-processing & visualization of results and reporting from project
A special focus will be on 3D-visualization techniques included/developed in the 5IT-master courses
at the NUC. However, other visualization methods may also be included.
Topic for student project and report-format will be given by lecturer.
