page analysis of short

story
The short story, the story of an hour, conveys how sudden
discoveries can be a life-changing experience for an individual. At
the beginning of the story, Mrs Mallard is antagonized with the
news of her husbands death. In response, she chooses to discard
the repressing emotions by abandoning the significance of her
husbands death. As a result, she gains her own sense of euphoria
and self-assertion. When she is provoked with her emotions, she
decides to interact with nature. The symbolism of blue skies and
the window imply her achieving liberty. She is also excited by the
prospect that she would live life for herself, not by her
husbands will. The repetition of free within her dialogue
suggests how she is embracing the prospect of independence and
freedom as there is no powerful will bending hers. The allusion
and simile of she carried herself unwittingly like a goddess of
Victory, emphasises how her experience has become enhanced.
This self-discovery of her freedom and independence allows her to
overcome the grief from the death of her husband. Thus, this
short story exemplifies how sudden discoveries can result in lifechanging experiences for an individual.
