FARR 12.

20 SAIL MEASUREMENT RESTRICTIONS


1/ The class emblem on the mainsail shall be contained within two 1.0m x
.40m rectangles located starboard on top of port, parallel to the seams, with
a vertical separation of no less than .100m.
2/ The National letters and distinguishing numbers shall not be less than height
450mm, width 297mm (except the figure or letter 1), thickness 67mm. The space
between adjoining letters and numbers shall be 100mm. The last digit on the
star-board number or letter on the genoa shall be within 300mm of the luff.

MAINSAIL

a. The headboard may be of any material with a maximum width of 150mm


and shall not extend more than 170mm aft of the head when measured at right
angles to the luff.
b. The length of the leech shall not exceed 13.935m.

c. The cross width measurements shall be taken from the three quarter, half
and quarter points on the leech, located when the head is folded to the clew
for the half height point, and when the head and clew are folded to the half
height point to determine the three quarter and quarter height points.
d. The maximum three quarter height width between the leech and the nearest
point on the luff, including the luff rope, shall be not more than L755*%
e. The maximum half height width between the leech and the nearest point
on the luff, including the luff rope, shall be not more than 3.1 m.
f. The maximum quarter height width between the leech and the nearest point
on the luff, including the luff rope, shall be not more than 4.235 m.
g. The sail shall have four battens, with no length restriction, battens that
run from luff to leech must be parallel with sail foot.
h. The distance from the head and clew to the intersection of the aft edge
of the sail with the centreline of the nearest batten pocket measured in a
straight line, shall be not less than 2.800m.
i. At least three reefs, shall be built into the mainsail. The bearing surface
of the luff, measured in a straight line from the track, shall be not less than
the following:

The corresponding leech reef points must be kept at least square or above to
the luff reefs.

A Cunningham hole may be fitted in the luff.

k. No clew Cunningham hole may be fitted in the leech.

4. LIGHT NO 1 GENOA
a. The width of the head measured at right angles to the luff tape or rope
shall be not more than 110m.
b. The luff shall be not more than 15.200m.
c. The diagonal (LP) shall be not more than 6.665m nor less than 6.465m
measured to the forward side of the outer most bolt rope.
d. A Cunningham hole may be fitted in the luff with the bearing surface of
the cringle no more than 400m above the tack.
e. The leech shall not be convex.
f.

No battens are permitted.

g. A leech line is permitted,


h. Camber lines are permitted
i. A cringle in the foot is permitted for a tacking line.
5. HEAVY NO. 1 GENOA
a. The width of the head measured at right angles to the luff tape or rope
shall be not more than 110m.
b. The luff shall be not more than 15.200m.
c. The diagonal (LP) shall be not more than 6.530m nor less than 6.330m
measured to the forward side of the outer most bolt rope.
d. A Cunningham hole may be fitted in the luff with the bearing surface of
the cringle no more than 400m above the tack.
e. The leech shall not be convex.
f.

No battens are permitted.

g. A leech line is permitted,


h. Camber lines are permitted.
i. A cringle in the foot is permitted for a tacking line.

6. NO. 2 GENOA
a. The width of the head measured at right angles to the luff including the
luff tape or rope shall be not more .110m.
b. The luff shall be not more than 15.110m.
c. The diagonal (LP) shall be not more than 5.850m nor less than 5.650m
measured to the forward side of the outer most bolt rope.
d. A Cunningham hole may be fitted in the luff with the bearing surface of
the cringle no more than .400m above the tack.
e. The leech shall not be convex.
f.

No battens are permitted.

g. A leech line is permitted,

NO. 3 GENOA

a. The width of the head measured at right angles to the luff tape or rope
shall be not more than .110m.
b. The luff shall be not more than 15.11m nor less than 14.41m.
c. The diagonal (LP) shall be not more than 4.390m nor less than 4.240m
measured to the forward side of the outer most bolt rope.
d. A Cunningham hole may be fitted in the luff with the bearing surface of
the cringle no more than .400m above the tack.
e. The leech shall not be convex.
f. The leech may be supported by a maximum of 4 equally spaced batten of
maximum length .500m.
g. A leech line is permitted,
h. Camber lines are permitted.
i. A cringle in the foot is permitted for a tacking line.

NO. 4 GENOA, (WORKING JIB)

a. The width of the head measured at right angles to the luff tape or rope
shall be not more than .110m.
b. The luff shall be not more than 12.300m nor less than 12.000m.
c. The diagonal (LP) shall be not more than 3.440m nor less than 3.290m
measured to the forward side of the outer most bolt rope.

d.

A Cunningham hole may be fitted.

e. The leech shall not be convex but may be supported by a maximum of three
equally spaced battens, each with a length not more than .500m.
f.

A leech line is permitted.

g.

Camber lines are permitted.

NO. 1 SPINNAKER

a. The spinnaker shall be a three cornered sail, symmetrical about its centre
line.
b. The spinnaker shall be measured opened out on a flat surface, pulled with
sufficient tension to remove wrinkles and creases along the lines of measurement.
c. The length of the leeches shall be not more than 15.650m nor less than
15.350m.
d. The spinnaker maximum width shall be not more than 8.460m nor less than
8.160m.
e.

The clew angles shall not exceed 110 degrees.

f.

Minimum cloth weight shall be .75 02. (American weight uncoated cloth)

NO. 2 SPINNAKER

a. The spinnaker shall be a three cornered sail, symmetrical about its centre
line.
b. The spinnaker shall be measured opened out on a flat surface, pulled with
sufficient tension to remove wrinkles and creases along the lines of measurement.
The point of SMG measurement shall be established by folding the head to each
clew and marking the respective half height point on each leech.
c. The length of the leeches shall be not more than 14.690 nor less than
14.390m
d. The spinnaker maximum width shall be not more than 7.75m nor less than
7.55m.
e.

The clew angles shall not exceed 110 degrees.

f.

Minimum cloth weight shall be 1.5 oz. (American weight uncoated cloth)

b. The sails shall be measured in accordance with IYRU measurement


instructions except where varied herein.
c. Distinquishing numbers shall be placed on the mainsail, Light no. 1 Genoa,
Heavy no. 1 Genoa, no. 2 Genoa, all spinnakers.
d. All working sails shall be made only from nylon and/or polyester sail cloths.
* Spinnakers may be made only from woven nylon sail cloths.
Battens may
not be manufacturered from high modulus fabrics.
* Polyester film sail cloths are acceptable.
