These examples are some of the basic, yet effective steps taken in order to portray the nation
as a powerful world Policemen. The steps United States took against terrorism were a necessity
to maintain the integrity of the country (Nikou, 2014). America realized that the nations security
was not effective after incidents that resulted in several casualties. The policies for antiterrorism
called for extreme checking measures against non citizens and immigrants. America witnessed a
very rigorous phase in which Americans and non- Americans suffered as every other person had
to undergo security clearances under accusations of suspicion. These lead to revised immigration
policies as well. America was the land of hope and considered a world superpower; this attracted
many immigrants from all over the world, who wanted to improve their living conditions. With
the rapidly increasing immigrants, America had to implement certain rules and regulations and
ensure that the immigrants were living with proper documentations (Nikou, 2014).
Division of Capitalist and Communist Bloc that resulted in Cold War under the political
decision made by the President Truman
The North Atlantic Treaty that resulted in establishment of NATO
Southeast Asia Treaty and the Chinese and Korean Wars
The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty between the US and the USSR
START I arms control treaty, signed by President George H. W. Bush also reflects the role of
America as Policeman of the World
Relating to the incidents discussed about the Cold War in the previous section, the allies with the
United States were grouped under the Western Bloc and the Soviet Union was grouped under the
Eastern Bloc (Solomon, 2011). The policy of division was necessary to differentiate between the
Soviet Union and the nations that favored democracy. The Western Bloc was an incident that
included international policy makers and therefore, resulted in America once again becoming the
Policemen of the world (Solomon, 2011).
North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or more commonly referred as NATO, is a military
alliance organization that was formed on the North Atlantic Treaty. The collective defense of the
treaty members allows a mutual and established response to any attack from the external party.
The true essence of the organization was exposed after the Korean War (Solomon, 2011).
America being the Policeman of the world, leads these organizations and any attacks carried out.
The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty was an important treaty signed between the United States and
the Soviet Union. The treaty barred the two sides from using anti-ballistic missiles. Under the
terms of the treaty, America and the Soviet Union had certain limitations under which they could
pursue weapons programs and developments (Solomon, 2011).
The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty was a similar treaty that was signed at a later date.
The bilateral treaty also looked after the reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms
(Solomon, 2011). The treaty, signed in 1994 expired in 2009, allowing both nations, to develop
the weapons of their choice. These treaties and efforts were imposed to prevent any future
international incidents that could lead to world wars. Considering all the efforts put in by the
United States of America, the nation clearly wanted to become the ruling superpower. Its status
today, is vey dominating, and has been the key to shaping its internal developments in the recent
decades. The major turning points, such as conflicts with other nations, influenced America to
take hold of its powers and create a bench for the other nations to reach for (Solomon, 2011).
Conclusion
Since the conclusion of the Second World War, several countries have tried to become
the leading superpower and the policemen of the world. However, this rank has been secured by
the United States of America and for ages, people have globally looked up to America as the
front runner. Americas polices have been able to shape many internal and external developments
around the globe, which have in turn helped the United States of America prosper.
