Announcement of Masters and PhD Scholarships under the DAAD InCountry/In-Region Scholarship Programme, Eastern Africa for 2015/16
The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha, Tanzania
has received support to train eight (8) Masters and four (4) PhD students under the German Academic
Exchange Service (DAAD) In-Country/In-Region Programme for the 2015/16 academic year. Selected
candidates will be registered at NM-AIST in the Programmes that have already been announced on the
website (www.nm-aist.ac.tz) and as presented in Table 1 below:

Applicants who already have NM-AIST admission for the 2015/16 academic year must complete
DAADs application for In-Country/In-Region Scholarship for Postgraduates, Eastern Africa, whereas,
those who do not have NM-AIST admission are required to fill application forms for admission and

complete the DAADs application form. Details of programmes on offer for the 2015/16 academic year
and admission requirements are on our website.
Applicants are strongly advised to read carefully the conditions for DAAD scholarships as
detailed in Guidelines for In-Country/In-Region Scholarships, Eastern Africa-2015/16 and
Information Sheet for Scholars, 2015/2016 before filling the Application form for In-Country/InRegion Scholarship for Postgraduates, Eastern Africa. The three documents are hereby attached.
Applicants should note the following requirements:
(a) Quality of the proposal will be one of the major criteria for selection of the PhD candidates and the
proposal must demonstrate relevance to development.
(b) Scholarships are available for up to a maximum of two years (Masters) and three years (PhD).
(c) Female candidates and candidates from less privileged regions or groups as well as candidates with
disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
(d) Applications must be sent to NM-AIST using the following address:

(e) In addition, a complete soft copy must be sent to DAAD (applications@daadafrica.org),
containing the following
(i)

Application documents submitted for admission at NM-AIST,

(ii)

The filled DAAD Application Form and,

(iii) All additional documents requested by the DAAD Information Sheet for Scholars.
