Denotation is what you see whereas connotation is the meaning of


the image.

This shot denotes a male with his eyes closed and one of them
being covered by his hand, this connotes him as possibly hiding
from something because of fear. This shot also denotes a lot of
vibrant colours such as reds and oranges, this implies that the male
in the shot is distressed, linking to the idea of him hiding from fear.
Colours used such as red and orange have connotations of anger
which he might be trying to escape from, the illustration of his facial
expression also supports this.
