Ice climbing at Tajukangas Ice Fall in Pyh

Description, in Luosto: The clients will get collected from Luosto


at the agreed time. Bliss representative will drive the clients to Pyh
(25 kilometers, 20 minutes). Then, as described below.

Description, in Pyh: Tajukangas could be the easiest-access


venue for proper ice climbing in the whole world just a 10 minute
walk from the meeting point, Hotel Pyhtunturi.

Bliss' guide will wait for the clients at the agreed time at the
reception of Hotel Pyhtunturi. After meet & greet Bliss' guide will
equip the clients with the relevant gear at the near-by Bliss'
premises (Incl. climbing boots). Then the clients will get guided to
the climbing venue.
At Tajukangas there will a bonfire, hot berry juice and the necessary
set up for climbing, for example ready set climbing ropes. The
climbing instructor will tell clearly about the relevant safety factors,
and then take one client at a time to climb safely on top rope,
belaying the climber and advising her/him on climbing techniques.
While waiting for their respective turn, clients can cheer for and
photograph the climber. After the climb it is time to relax together
by the warmth of the fire, sipping Hot beverages and listening to
stories about ice climbing, arctic nature and such. The instructor
may share some wild stories from climbing trips around the world.

Price Includes: Climbing instructor services, guiding to the climbing


venue, climbing gear such as; helmet, visor/goggles, harness,
crampons, ice axes, foot-wear (climbing boots or ski boots). Hot

A suitable climbing experience also and especially for the kids


(with their parents or guardians). Ice climbing wall offers tailored safe
routes for the smaller climbers, where the ice axes nor crampons are
not a must for a successful experience of climbing. Easy access to

snow labyrinth at the foot of the climbing wall. Perhaps footprints or
some other signs of the infamous Tajukangas Yeti can be found on

After the meet & greet a Bliss' guide will equip the clients with the
relevant gear at the Bliss' premises near-by. For the childrens'
climbing routes climbing boots are not a must.

Then a guide will take the clients to Tajukangas ice wall and lavvu.
Team Bliss has created a suitable climbing route to kids at
Tajukangas. It is not necessary to be able to manoeuvre ice axes or
the sometimes heavy-appearing crampons to climb this route. The
route offers a fair number of holds for hands and feet. A qualified
Bliss instructor will belay also the kid climbers, who will use a
climbing helmet (which will not only make the activity safer, but also
will give the little climber right kind of spirit).
There is a special-made snow labyrinth for the kids to explore, too,
in case they would not be all that much into climbing, eventually.

A guide will supervise the children's activity and go through all the
necessary safety aspects, and share some wild stories about the
history of Tajukangas and it's mysterious habitats. There will be hot
berry juice available for all the adventurers throughout the evening.

A memorable diploma will be handed out to all the small


adventurers.

CUSTOMISED
ICE CLIMBING

Climbing activities customised to the level of experience and


skill of the client. Suitable for beginners who are eager to climb a
lot, and for those who already have some experience and wish to
push their skills and knowledge to the next level. The instructor
takes the clients beyond a simple trial into the world of ice climbing,
with an introduction to different climbing techniques and a
possibility for several ascents per client, depending on each persons
strength and stamina.

ICE CLIMBING DAY


IN KOROUOMA
Day trip to the Korouoma Gorge in Posio, where the
mightiest ice falls in Finland are located some up to 60
meters tall. Amazing conservation area with rich flora and
fauna. An overnight stay nearby the gorge is also possible for
additional cost (a basic wilderness hut or a comfy cottage).
Korouoma is located roughly 2 h 30 minutes by car from
Pyhtunturi, 1 hour and 30 minutes from Rovaniemi.

Bliss guide will meet the clients in the morning at agreed time

Hike down to canyon, climbing. After climbing brief barbecue
in the canyon by a bonfire. Hike up to the parking lot. Drive

Luosto at the agreed time. Bliss representative will drive the
clients to Pyh (20 kilometers, 20 minutes). After arrival in Pyh
the guide will equip the clients with the relevant gear. Then, as
described below. After rappelling session clients will get driven
back.
Description, in Pyh: Bliss' guide will wait for the clients at the
agreed time at the reception of Hotel Pyhtunturi. After meet &
greet Bliss' guide will equip the clients with the relevant gear at
the near-by Bliss' premises (Incl. climbing boots). Then the
clients will get guided to the rappelling venue, Tajukangas, a
10 minute walk from Hotel Pyhtunturi.
The instructor takes the clients along a marked route to a safe
spot on top of the ice fall. The instructor calls the clients one at
a time to the rappel spot, and then shows the correct
rappelling technique to the client. The client will get to control
the rappelling by him/herself, the Bliss' guide belaying,
securing the activity all the time.

Once down, the client unties from the rope and waits the
others safely by the fire, where he/she is protected from
possibly falling ice. After everyone is down, it is time to relax
together by the warmth of the fire, sipping hot beverages, and
listening the guides' stories about ice or mountain climbing, or
discuss together the very meaning of life.

CAPTURING AURORAS

Learn the basics of photographing the Aurora Borealis

Learning the basic skills and camera settings for photographing


Aurora Borealis, the northern lights. An instructive presentation on
how to capture them will be held at Tajukangas lavvu by bonfire with
a guide. He will walk you through the settings of your camera and
give helpful tips while the auroras might blazing in the sky.

A helpful Capturing Auroras pocket-sized guide will be handed to
all the participants.
No Auroras? No problem. Let's photograph starry sky! No starry
sky? No problem. Let's do the light-painting with headlamps and
capture that!

There will be hot berry juice available for all of the photographers.

Learning the basic skills and camera settings for photographing


Aurora Borealis, the northern lights. Then hiking though arctic
forest on snowshoes trying to capture the northern lights.
Evening ends with a tasty Raclette* meal at the local PyhWurst
restaurant.
Bliss guide will wait for the clients at Hotel Pyhtunturi's reception.
After meet and greet, the guide will equip the group with
snowshoes and lead them to Tajukangas, which is a mere 10 minute
walk away. Once the group arrives to the venue, guide will do a
short presentation about northern lights and basic camera settings
by the bonfire. The guide will help the clients to set up the cameras
so that everyone is ready to start shooting once the auroras present
themselves.
There will be hot berry juice available for all of the photographers.
Hiking through beautiful landscape on snowshoes, having the
cameras ready for the possible Auroras.
No Auroras? No problem. Let's photograph starry sky! No starry
sky? No problem. Let's do the light-painting with headlamps and
capture that!
Hike leads to PyhWurst restaurant where a Raclette* meal will be
served.
Price includes: Guiding, instructing, snowshoes, Capturing
Auroras pocket-sized guide, hot berry juice, headlamps, tripods,
gaiters and a dinner.

*Raclette cheese, the core of the meal, is a traditional Swiss delicacy.


The dish involves everyone in cooking, creating the meal together. A
part of the cheese is melted on griddle and mixed with various types
of meats and/or vegetables which are cooked on a hot plate. The
cheese is then scraped off to a plate and enjoyed with a glass of
wine or beer.

premises for a theory work shop about arctic nature and arctic survival
skills and, introducing both the traditional and contemporary techniques.

Bliss' survival instructor will introduce the relevant gear, such as arctic
sleeping bags and sleeping mats, clothing items, give insight information
about various materials and their suitability for challenging environment.
Also clothing items for the extreme cold and various stove systems will
get discussed. A light but nutritious meal will be served.

Going out. Weather conditions allowing (temperature, wind, amount of


snow, etc.) survival instructor will present how to build a quinzee
(pronounced kwinzi, in Finnish lumikammi). It is a traditional snow
shelter, made by hollowing out a pile of settled snow, a well-proven
method of surviving the arctic night. Clients are expected to participate
to build their own quinzee. It will take a couple of hours for a group.
Another snack or a meal will be served.

Group gets prepared for the night-stay in the quinzee, which they created
by themselves with instructions from the Bliss representatives.
Bliss guide will monitor the night. In case of emergency or if the clients
requests so, he/she can be relocated into a warm back up building closeby.

At the wake up some warm drinks and a nutritious morning snack will be
served. Also every client will get interviewed individually to make sure
that everyone is fine after the night.
The adventure will end as a Bliss guide will walk the clients back to
civilization.
