templatesinthisarticle.TheHazenWilliamsformulaisusedforwaterflowratecalculations.EitherS.I.unitsor
U.S.unitscanbeusedintheExcelspreadsheettemplates.
LimitationsontheHazenWilliamsFormulaforWaterFlowRateCalculations
TheHazenWilliamsformulaisanempiricalequationthatcanbeusedforturbulentflowofwaterattypicalambient
temperatures.Theturbulentflowrequirementisnotverylimiting.Mostpracticalapplicationsofwatertransportin
pipesareintheturbulentflowregime.Forareviewofthistopicseethearticle,'ReynoldsNumberandLaminar&
TurbulentFlow.'Strictlyspeaking,theHazenWilliamsformulaappliestowaterat60oF,butitworksquitewellfora
reasonablerangeofwatertemperaturesaboveorbelow60oF.Forfluidswithviscositydifferentfromwater,orfor
watertemperaturesfaraboveorbelow60oF,theDarcyWeisbachEquationworksbetterthantheHazenWilliams
