3.2 GBFD-170101 Abis Self-planning(New/Basic)

3.2.1 Feature Description
Availability
This feature is available from GBSS17.0.

Summary
With Abis Self-planning, the control plane on the Abis interface supports self-configuration in
end point mode when the BSC and GBTS(UMPT) are interconnected. The BSC, serving as the
SCTP server, does not need the planning or configuration of the SCTP link. The GBTS(UMPT),
serving as the SCTP client, initiates an SCTP link establishment request. After an SCTP link is
established, it is associated with the upper-layer signaling. This simplifies the configurations of
the Abis interface.

GSM BSS
Network Impact Report

3 Impacts of GBSS17.0 Features on GBSS16.0 Networks

Benefits
l

This feature simplifies the control-plane data configuration of the BSC, and therefore
reduces the network maintenance cost and total cost of operation (TCO).

In SingleRAN scenarios, this feature provides unified OM experience on the control plane.

Description
With this feature, the control plane on the Abis interface uses self-configuration in end point
mode on the BSC side when the Abis interface uses IP transmission. In this case, only the SCTP
server data needs to be configured on the BSC, and SCTP link data and upper-layer signaling
data associated with the SCTP link do not need to be configured on the BSC.
During deployment, the GBTS(UMPT) obtains the IP address and port number of the SCTP
server either from the U2000 or by manual configuration and then initiates an SCTP negotiation
procedure. After an SCTP link is established, the GBTS(UMPT) sends its identity information
to the SCTP server. The SCTP server parses this information and then maps the SCTP link onto
the upper-layer signaling.

Enhancement
None

3.2.2 System Capacity and Network Performance

System Capacity
No impact.

Network Performance
This feature has the following impact on network performance:
l

When an eGBTS accesses the network and tries to establish a signaling link for the first
time, establishing a signaling link in end point mode takes about 5s to 10s more than that
in link mode. However, time required for establishing a signaling link in end point mode
is the same as that in link mode after an eGBTS is reset.

After a signaling link is automatically established, if the local SCTP IP address or port
number is modified on the eGBTS, the system automatically establishes a new signaling
link instead of modifying the established signaling link.

3.2.3 NEs
This feature is implemented on the BSC and eGBTS.

3.2.4 Hardware
No impact.

3.2.5 Inter-NE Interfaces

This feature adds a new IE to the Huawei proprietary Abis message eGBTS CPBearer Set Info.
The new IE is used by the eGBTS to report its identity to the BSC.

3 Impacts of GBSS17.0 Features on GBSS16.0 Networks

Summary
From SRAN3.0, Huawei multimode base stations provide common reference clock for GSM
and UMTS that share one BBU.

Benefits
This feature provides common reference clock for GSM and UMTS that share one BBU, thereby
saving the CAPEX and OPEX.

Description
This feature supports the following application scenarios:
l

Common GPS reference clock

Common GPS reference clock requires only one set of external equipment and one set of
feeder and antenna for a GU dual-mode base station, which reduces the installation costs
and deployment costs.

Common BITS reference clock

Common BITS reference clock requires only one set of external equipment for a GU dualmode base station, which saves the costs.

Common E1/T1 reference clock from Abis interface

When the Abis interface is based on TDM over E1/T1 and the Iub interface is based on IP
over FE/GE, the WMPT can obtain the reference clock from the clock synchronized from
the Abis E1/T1 in the GTMU. The clock server is not necessary for UMTS and the cost is

Common E1/T1 reference clock from Iub interface

When common E1/T1 reference clock from Iub interface is used, the GTMU can obtain
the reference clock from the clock synchronized from the Iub E1/T1 in the WMPT or
UMPT_U. The clock server is not necessary for GSM and the cost is saved accordingly.

3 Impacts of GBSS17.0 Features on GBSS16.0 Networks

3.3.1.2 GBTS and eNodeB Common Reference Clock

This scenario is available from SRAN5.0.

Summary
From SRAN5.0, Huawei multimode base stations provide common reference clock for GSM
and LTE that share one BBU.

Benefits
This feature provides common reference clock for GSM and LTE that share one BBU, thereby
saving the CAPEX and OPEX.

Description
This feature supports the following application scenarios:
l

Common GPS reference clock

Common GPS reference clock requires only one set of external equipment and one set of
feeder and antenna for a GL dual-mode base station, which reduces the installation costs
and deployment costs.

Common BITS reference clock

Common BITS reference clock requires only one set of external equipment for a GL dualmode base station, which saves costs.

Common E1/T1 reference clock from Abis interface

When the Abis interface is based on TDM over E1/T1 and S1 interface is based on IP over
FE/GE, the LMPT/UMPT can obtain the reference clock from the clock synchronized from
the Abis E1/T1 in the GTMU. The clock server is not necessary for LTE and the cost is
saved accordingly.

Common E1/T1 reference clock from S1 interface

When GSM and LTE share the same transmission interface based on IP over E1/T1 or
hybrid transmission based on IP, the GTMU can obtain the reference clock from the clock
synchronized from the S1 E1/T1 in the UTRP for LTE mode. The clock server is not
necessary for GSM and the cost is saved accordingly.

Common Ethernet reference clock from S1 interface

When common Ethernet reference clock is used, GSM can obtain the reference clock via
the BBU backplane from the LTE main control board LMPT/UMPT or UTRP.

Common IP network 1588V2 reference clock from S1 interface

When GSM and LTE BTS support the 1588V2 reference clock, only one 1588V2 clock
server and client are required. GSM can obtain the reference clock via the BBU backplane
from the LTE main control board LMPT/UMPT.
