Summary
This feature describes system capability enhancements in GBSS17.0, including the
enhancements in BSC6900 and BSC6910 reliability.
Benefits

Summary
With Abis Self-planning, the control plane on the Abis interface supports self-configuration in
end point mode when the BSC and GBTS(UMPT) are interconnected. The BSC, serving as the
SCTP server, does not need the planning or configuration of the SCTP link. The GBTS(UMPT),
serving as the SCTP client, initiates an SCTP link establishment request. After an SCTP link is
established, it is associated with the upper-layer signaling. This simplifies the configurations of
the Abis interface.
Issue Draft A (2014-07-30)
GSM BSS
Network Impact Report
Benefits
l
This feature simplifies the control-plane data configuration of the BSC, and therefore
reduces the network maintenance cost and total cost of operation (TCO).
In SingleRAN scenarios, this feature provides unified OM experience on the control plane.
Description
With this feature, the control plane on the Abis interface uses self-configuration in end point
mode on the BSC side when the Abis interface uses IP transmission. In this case, only the SCTP
server data needs to be configured on the BSC, and SCTP link data and upper-layer signaling
data associated with the SCTP link do not need to be configured on the BSC.
During deployment, the GBTS(UMPT) obtains the IP address and port number of the SCTP
server either from the U2000 or by manual configuration and then initiates an SCTP negotiation
procedure. After an SCTP link is established, the GBTS(UMPT) sends its identity information
to the SCTP server. The SCTP server parses this information and then maps the SCTP link onto
the upper-layer signaling.
Enhancement
None
Network Performance
This feature has the following impact on network performance:
l
When an eGBTS accesses the network and tries to establish a signaling link for the first
time, establishing a signaling link in end point mode takes about 5s to 10s more than that
in link mode. However, time required for establishing a signaling link in end point mode
is the same as that in link mode after an eGBTS is reset.
After a signaling link is automatically established, if the local SCTP IP address or port
number is modified on the eGBTS, the system automatically establishes a new signaling
link instead of modifying the established signaling link.
3.2.3 NEs
This feature is implemented on the BSC and eGBTS.
3.2.4 Hardware
No impact.
