INSTRUMENT DETAILS
Translink Infrastructure Consultants Pvt. Ltd. is the first &
only consulting firm in India to have procured Heavy
Weight Deflectometer in India. The HWD can apply a
loading in the range of 30-320kN, enabling it to simulate
even the most extreme aircraft wheel load such as the
Boeing 777, the Airbus 340 or 380. The HWD is highly
versatile and can be used to test on both rigid, paver block
and flexible pavements used on roads and airports.
Instrument meets all HWD standards worldwide.
Key Economic Benefits
Dynamic loading enables mechanistic-empirical
analysis of the pavement layers and the determination of
optimum rehabilitation strategies
Automated and rapid structural pavement testing
Determines the layer of failure, rather than determining
simply the bearing capacity
QA/QC of newly built pavements
Compares a range of rehabilitation options, including
plane off and recycling rather than just applying
overlays
INSTRUMENT DETAILS
Key Engineering Benefits
Our HWD provides accurate, reproducible and
repeatable data
The automated load or deflection sensing ensures
consistent data
Automated and real-time monitoring of load cell,
geophones and data variations ensures high quality of
collected data
Uses mechanistic analysis allowing testing of most
pavement structures
The HWD is used worldwide from the hottest and driest
deserts, to the humid tropics and the cooler polar
regions
Our system comes from the original commercial
developer of the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD)
technology, Dynatest, who is the worlds largest supplier
of FWD equipment. This highly accurate, well
supported, reliable and continuously refined Dynatest
product line is a proven load/deflection measurement
solution for engineers worldwide.
INSTRUMENT DETAILS
FWD/HWD generated data, combined with layer
thickness, can be confidently used to obtain the in-situ
resilient E-moduli of a pavement structure. This
information can in turn be used in a structural analysis to
determine the bearing capacity, estimate expected life, and
calculate an overlay requirement, if applicable (over a
desired design life).
Deflectometer is used for the following applications:
INSTRUMENT DETAILS
Key Technical Points:
Load pulse : All mass configurations produce a transient load
pulse approximately half sine wave formed and 25 to 30 msec in
duration, with a rise time of 10 to 15 msec for any falling height
(for all loads). This arrangement best simulates the on field
creation of load pulse and hence the deflection bowl.
INSTRUMENT DETAILS
Key Technical Points:
Time Histories
Time histories are collected for the load signal and all 15
deflection channels in a time window ranging from 40 to 200
msec
The system is capable of storing histories for up to 400 msec
when the data is required for special research needs and for
undertaking dynamic analysis.
Sampling circuit can scan each of the channels in 0.05 msec
intervals independent of the number of channels in use.
Accuracy: Equipment accuracy remains stable and verification
is not required on a frequent basis (regardless of type of test
sites, changes in deflector distances, etc.) Ongoing user
verification of original guaranteed deflection specifications is
provided in the form of a relative/dynamic field calibration
verification procedure in which a minimum of nine (9) of the
deflectors are placed into a mechanical columnar device to
obtain comparative relative calibration verification of the
deflectors at any distance from the load up to a distance of at
least 2.5 meters (8 ft) to ensure that all deflectors give the same
data output within specification tolerances, at large as well as
small deflection levels, and both close to and far from the
loading plate under actual HWD loading conditions.
