CN235-220M NAL1 Structure Analysis
General Description
CN-235-220M NAL1 is configured from a basic aircraft (CN235-220 military version) with some
modification on the external shapes, structure, system, interior arrangement and antenna
arrangement. The aircraft is an advanced, low subsonic, short and medium range, modified and
equipped as specified herein to perform its primary surveillance mission.
The turboprop engines fitted on its inner wings are power the aircraft. The aircraft feature high
cantilever wing, pressurized cabin and retractable tricycle landing gears.
The functional mission requirements are:

Law enforcement
Marine environmental control
Disaster relief
Fisheries control
Marine shipping control

The strategic mission requirements are:

Coverage of areas of interest
Detection of covert and clandestine threat activity
Maritime surface surveillance
The tactical mission requirements are:
Day and night coverage
Special coverage and rapid response to:
o Terrorist activities
o Smuggling
o Disaster relief
o Foreign Intelligence Collection

Certification
The Type Design Model of CN235-220M NAL1 will be approved by the Indonesian Military
Airworthiness Authority (IMAA), and the certification process will be conducted under
applicable of The Indonesian Military Airworthiness Authority Guidance Material:
JUKLAK/15/III/2007 Tata Cara Penyelenggaraan Sertifikasi Rancang Bangun dan Kelaikan
Produk Aeronautika Kelas I Militer Issue date 27 March 2007.
The Type Design Model of CN235 220 NAL1 will be designed and constructed to fulfill the
applicable airworthiness requirements was selected from related of Indonesian Civil
Airworthiness Safety Regulation (CASR) as follow:

CASR Part 25, Airworthiness Standards Transport Category Airplane, Revision 5 KM

26/2003 date 10 June.2003 , with exception of Paragraph 25.562: Emergency landing
dynamic condition and Subpart H (Airworthiness Standard directed by ICAO).

CN235-220M NAL1 Design Modification

1) External Shapes
The following is a list of additional external shapes due to mission system requirement:
Basic wingtip will be replaced by the winglet
Belly radome
Bubble windows
FLIR and fairing
The addition and relocation of several antennas
2) Structures
Nose fuselage
Center fuselage
Aft fuselage
Wing
3) Avionic System
4) Interior
This aircraft is furnished with equipment which is enabling the aircraft to operate as Patrol,
Guard and Search & Rescue aircraft.
5) Flight Deck
Additional controls, displays, and instruments are arranged and grouped by function and
sequence. The more frequently used groups and the most important groups are located in
areas of easiest access.
Means of Compliances
The following table shows the Means of Compliances for structure analysis of CN235-220M
NAL1 aircraft.

REQUIREMENT TITLE

COMPLIANCE STATEMENT

MOC

23

LOAD DISTRIBUTION
LIMITS

23(a)

Range of weight and C.G.

The airplane weight and C.G. limits will be

established.

23(b)

Load distribution limit

Compliance of the above limits with the

structural loading conditions and flight
requirements will be established..

25

WEIGHT LIMITS

25(a)

Maximum weight

Maximum weights corresponding to the

airplane operating conditions, environmental
conditions and loading conditions will be
established according to this paragraph. Max
weight & Min. weight are same as basic.

27(a)-(c)

CENTER OF GRAVITY
LIMITS

The extreme forward and aft C.G. limits will be

established for each practicably separable
operating condition.

29(a)-(b)

EMPTY WEIGHT &

CORRESPONDING CENTER
OF GRAVITY

The empty weight and corresponding C.G. will

be determined by weighing the airplane in
accordance with this paragraph.

31

REMOVABLE BALLAST

This section is not mandatory. Removable

ballast to get appropriate combinations of
weight and C.G.. has been used during flight
test, this being allowed by this section.

Buffet boundaries will be established in

accordance with the requirements of this
paragraph.

303

FACTOR OF SAFETY

Factor of safety of 1.5 has been applied.

305(a)

Support limit load

The structure will be shown to be able to

support limit loads without detrimental
permanent deformation. It's will be complied
by analysis.

305(b)

Support ultimate load

The structure will be shown to be able to

support ultimate loads as specified in this
paragraph..

305(c)

Structural Flexibility

Transient stresses caused by dynamic effects of

landing have been covered using agreed
method.

305(d)

Dynamic response

Dynamic response of the airplane will be

considered in the vertical and lateral continuous
turbulence.

307

PROOF OF STRUCTURE

307(a)

Strength & Deformation

The structure conform to structural analysis

with experience has shown this method to be
reliable with considering each critical loading
condition.

307(d)

Static or Dynamic test

Method of analysis has been satisfying verified

by basic structure static test and appropriate
material correction factor has been applied.
