TopSolid 2016
This section describes the new features made to the PDM, Design, Sheet Metal, Drafting and Unfolding applications
in the version 7.10 of TopSolid 7.
User interface
Menus
The Tools menu has been split into three menus:
-
Entities tree
Two modes have been added to the Entities tree:
-
Printing
A field has been added to the print command to specify the number of copies.
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Example of a drilling that is copied and pasted with a pattern. The copied drillings can then be modified independently.
Usual tolerances
In the document's Options tree, the new Tolerances section allows you to define the usual tolerances for shafts and
holes. These tolerances will then be available in the Favorites menu when entering a value.
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Units
A Time parameter can now be displayed with composite units (in hour/minute/second for example). This parameter
can then be displayed in the same way in a drafting document.
In the document options, the unit symbol is now displayed after the unit name.
Undo
The Undo command is now better managed. Two new options are available in the Tools > Options > General
section, which are added to the maximum number of commands to undo:
-
The undo feature can now be managed only on the current document.
It is now possible to limit the memory consumption due to the undo management per document.
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
PDM
Purge
The new PDM > Purge Projects command lets you purge the minor revisions, backups and recycle bins of all projects
contained in the base. Because this purge can be lengthy, it is possible to cancel the running process by pressing the
Esc key.
In addition, old documents that have not been read for more than 60 days are now automatically purged from the
cache folder.
Deletion
When a document is tagged as "Deleted", the Delete key now enables you to purge it.
Moreover, when deleting a document with reference to another document, a warning window is displayed
indicating the names of documents affected by this deletion.
Quick preview
In previous versions, in client/server mode, the selection of a document that was never opened required you to load
this document in the cache area to display its preview. Now only the image corresponding to the preview is loaded.
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Export path
The new PDM > Default Export Path command lets you define where documents are exported by default depending
on the properties of the project/and or the document. The project and/or the document tree and the document
parameters (part number, name, author) can be taken into account.
Vault
The name of the vault where a project is stored is now displayed in the project document for information purposes.

Libraries
Import
In client/server mode, when the security feature is enabled, only users with administrator rights can import the
libraries. When the other users log on, a pop-up window appears indicating that libraries are available.
Deletion
It is now possible to delete an installed library, except for the two required libraries (TopSolid Mechanical and
TopSolid Machining). However, the library must not be used in any of the projects.
Document modification
When a document is opened in read-only mode, the new File > Modify Document command lets you switch to edit
mode.
Analysis mode
After opening a document in read-only mode, launching a command switches the document to analysis mode in
which you can edit an operation, create elements (points, axes, planes, frames, sketches), make measurements,
but in which backups are not possible.
When the document switches to analysis mode, a warning dialog is displayed.
Save as
It is now possible to "save as" a document that is synchronized with another document. The current document is
then replaced by the newly created document and a copy of all the sync group's documents is created in the folder
you specified.
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Unsynchronizable document
It is possible to prevent a document from being modified from an assembly, and thus create a synchronization
between documents thanks to the new File > Unsynchronizable Document command. This command generates the
Unsynchronizable Boolean parameter whose value can be changed from the Entities tree.
Associated template
The new Construction > Parameters > Associate template to menu allows you to associate the creation of a
derivation, an extruded bar, a mirror part, a partial part (of an angular pin, a baffle, a basic shape, a core cavity
block, an electrode, an insert, a pin, a plate and a slide) with a document template, which makes it possible, for
example, to associate a specific template to all derived parts. This menu is only available when the document is
located in the project's Templates folder or in a template project (My Templates or Company Templates).
Several functions can be associated with a template. The name of the created template is suffixed with the name of
the associated function(s); it will be available when creating a document using this function.

Sketch
Underconstrained sketch
When a sketch is underconstrained, the solving operation is prefixed with "(-)" in the Operations tree. This prefix is
now also visible in the Entities tree. This way you can see quickly which sketches are underconstrained by expanding
the Sketches folder.
Intersection point
In the intersection constraint, the new Plane mode allows you to constrain a point of the 2D sketch at the
intersection between a 3D profile and the sketch plane.
12
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Intersection profile
The new 2D Sketch > Other Modifications >
Intersect command allows you to produce the intersection curve
between faces and the sketch plane without using a sketch operation.
This command is also available in the 3D Sketch menu; it allows you to produce the intersection curve between
faces and a sketch plane.
Fillet
When creating a fillet, the neighboring segments can now be automatically deleted.
Missler Software
13
TopSolid 2016
B-splines
To avoid losing the curve being created, it is no longer possible to launch a new command or validate the sketch
without first validating or cancelling the Spline dialog box.
In the document's Options tree, the new General > Silhouettes section allows the silhouettes of complex shapes not
to be calculated for best performance. When this option is unchecked (default), you cannot hook on a spline type
face.
Circle cursor
The new
Show Tool diameter mode lets you create an oblong profile with a thickness equivalent to the
diameter of a machining tool. This mode will be mainly used for a mouse facing operation in TopSolid'Cam.

Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
3D offset profile
Two new commands are available in the 3D Sketch > Operations menu:
-
Like in 2D, the Offset operation allows you to produce an offset profile by also specifying a vertical direction.
The Offset Normal to Shape operation creates an offset profile along the face normal according to given
distance and angle.
Fitting
The Fitting command is now available in the 2D sketch's Operations menu.
2D Boolean operation
The new 2D Sketch > Operations >
operation between several profiles.

15
TopSolid 2016
3D sketch planes
The command for redefining the input plane no longer interrupts the current command.
Sketch transformation
It is now possible to apply a deforming transformation, such as a non-uniform scaling, on a sketch.
Tolerances
Curve by formula
In previous versions, the tolerance of curves by formula was optional with a default value set to 0.01mm. This value
is now required.
Line/arc conversion
The tolerance of conversion into line and arc can now be configured so that it can be used as a driver in a Family
document.
Current attributes
The current line style, color and level are clearly displayed in the icon bar. In addition, the settings are now saved per
document, which makes it possible to have different values for each type of document (Part, Assembly, Drafting).
16
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Shape
Document inclusion
The Shape > Inclusion menu allows you to include a Part or Assembly document in a Part document with a
positioning.
The included documents are stored in the Entities tree's Parts folder, the representations are set in the same way as
for an inclusion in an assembly and the shapes can be used as tools in a Boolean operation for example.

17
TopSolid 2016
Fillet
Fillet between faces on edge
The No Radius type has been added to the Between faces mode of the Shape > Other Operations > Fillet FacesFaces and Surface > Blend commands and allows you to produce a fillet by only specifying constraints. Then, the
Symmetrical edges option defines constraints on the faces of the first side, while the Edges-edges mode defines
constraints on the faces of both sides.
Example of fillets between faces without radius (in blue) using the yellow reference surfaces and the
red dotted edge(s) of the fillet.
18
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Normal slot
The new Spatial mode lets you create a slot corresponding to the machining of a milling cutter whose axis remains
normal to the machined surface.

19
TopSolid 2016
Rehooking help
From the options of a Part or Assembly document, the new Shape > Rehooking Help option allows you to enable or
disable the storage of geometries. The storage of geometries helps you repair invalid operations when they are no
longer attached to faces or edges.
When the option is checked, an echo is displayed on the isoparametrics of the lost face (or the curve if an edge is
lost). By default, this options is disabled.
The isoparametric curves of the missing surface are shown with a black and red echo.
Compare/Replace
The dialogs boxes of the Shape > Comparison menu's commands are now temporarily docked in the dialog tree to
prevent parts from being hidden.
Preview
The icon for showing or hiding the preview has been added to the dialog boxes of the Trim, Trim by Profile, Thicken
and Hollow commands.
20
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Surface
Pipes
Management of corners
It is now possible to select the type of corners in the command's advanced options.
You can choose between sharp corners (previous version) or rounded corners. These corners are applied to the
discontinuous segments along the path.
Example of a pipe with sharp corners (left) and rounded corners (right).
Position of sections
When creating a pipe or a swept geometry, it is no longer necessary to position the section(s) at the origin of the
path(s).
In addition, the new Limits section allows you to specify the start and end points of the shape.
Missler Software
21
TopSolid 2016
Lofted shape
An intersection tolerance between profiles and guides has been added to the Guides section of the Lofted dialog
box.
Imprint
The Advanced Options section has been added to the Imprint dialog box. It includes two new features that allow
you to imprint on hidden faces and connect imprinted edges.
These options are also available in the Advanced Options section of the 3D Sketch > Operations > Project
command.
Faces
When copying all the shape's faces in Trimmed and Not separate modes, if the shape is a solid, the new Solid
checkbox allows you to produce a solid shape.
22
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Extension surface
The new Surface > Extension Surface command allows you to create a shape by extending a part area, while locally
keeping the tangents to the base faces. The surface can be based on an extrusion, a lofted shape, a pipe or an
extension. This is particularly useful in sheet metal for manual unstamping. It is also possible to add lateral
extensions.
Example of an extension surface based on a swept shape with a right-hand side extension.
Solid/Surface conversion
The Other submenu has been added to the Surface menu. It includes the Normal Reversal command (already
available in the previous version) and two new commands for converting shapes:
-
The
Conversion into Solid command that converts a surface shape into a solid shape. If the surface
contains holes, the Fill Holes command is launched automatically.
The
Self-intersecting shapes
In Tools > Options > Shape, the new Accepts self-intersecting surfaces option lets you create pipe, lofted or swept
shapes that produce self-intersections.
Missler Software
23
TopSolid 2016
Tolerances
Surface by formula
The checkbox for specifying the tolerance has been removed. The surface is now calculated with the default
tolerance (defined in the document options). Another value can be entered in the dialog box's Advanced Options
section.
The Precision mode makes it possible to calculate extra points to ensure a higher quality surface. For example with a
sinusoidal surface, this mode can be especially useful for obtaining a more accurate calculated surface.
Adjust continuity
The angular tolerance has been added to the Advanced Options section, making it possible to measure the
continuity in tangency when the adjustment is made with the Tangent mode.

Bends
Bend delimitation
The new Extended mode has been added to the Delimiting of Bend command. It enables you to delimit a bend in
several sections so that it can be unfolded in several stages (useful for strip process).
Example of a bend delimited in Extended mode. The bend has been delimited in three regular sections (right).
Bend unfolding
The new Bend with deformations mode has been added to the Unbending of Bend command. This mode can be
useful for plastic sheet forming when the side face contains a slot. Like unrolling, it allows you to associate faces that
will be deformed with bend faces.
Bend refolding
As a continuation of the new feature described above, the new Bend with deformations mode of the Rebending of
Bend command makes it possible to refold a bend with deformation.

TopSolid 2016
Assembly
Extruded bars on sketch
The Modeling > Extruded Bar command now lets you select all profiles of a sketch to add extruded bars onto it.
In addition, in a Bill of material document, the Trimming Orientation 1 and Trimming Orientation 2 properties
allow you to retrieve this information in columns.
For documents created with older versions, you need to change the measure mode by opening the extruded bar
document, and then launching the Trimming Angles Measure contextual command on the Trimming Angles
Management operation available in the Analysis stage.
26
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Replacement wizard
The new Replace Wizard command, which is available by bringing up the contextual menu on an inclusion
operation, can assist you in a replacement or rehooking operation.
The replacement document must be selected among the open Part or Assembly documents.
The screen is then split into two views: on the left the current document before being replaced, on the right the
replacement document.
A Wizard tree in the dialog lists all operations and entities with geometries to be rehooked. Geometries that have
been rehooked by TopSolid are shown in orange; otherwise they are highlighted in red. Geometries that have been
rehooked manually are shown in green.
Orientation constraint
When creating an orientation constraint, the new Normal section allows you to specify an additional direction for
the source or destination in order to indicate a positive or negative angle.
Missler Software
27
TopSolid 2016
Assembly: The repetition is performed in the assembly. The part then contains as many original operations as
the number of occurrences resulting from the repetition.
Parts: The repetition is performed in the part. The part contains the initial operation and its repetition. The
repetition options of the Part document are then proposed, including the Fast mode.
Moreover, this operation is performed automatically when a component is repeated with processes (it replaces the
Modeling > Process Repetition command).
Inherited publishings
In an assembly, the new Publishings > Inherit Publishings contextual command allows you to recover the
publishings of a part or assembly occurrence. These publishings can be prefixed manually or by the occurrence
name.
Wizards/Processes
In previous versions, it was not possible to use a distance or thickness rule if the axis of the component to be
dimensioned passed through holes (no collision detected).
A new Radius field is available in the dimensioning rule to overcome this limitation. TopSolid will search for
intersections between a cylinder with the specified radius and the surrounding parts of the assembly so as to get the
collision point and derive the distance along the axis of this collision point.
Assembly function
The Assembly Function document lets you publish rigid groups and joints, which allows assembly components used
in a mechanism to be replaced without loss of hooking (like for bearings or cylinders).
It is therefore necessary to publish rigid groups, joints and forces. These commands have been added to the Tools >
Publishings menu.
28
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Distribution
Distribution enables components to be spread across a profile or between two points (like for a handrail for
example) by varying the length of instances automatically. Exceptions can be assigned to certain instances in order
to have their length constrained.
This distribution is carried out through a function document and a family available in the TopSolid Mechanical
library. These documents, respectively named Distributable Component and Distributable Family, are stored in the
Components > General folder and must be provided in your generic and family documents.
Example of a distributed component. The gap between uprights has been adjusted to ends.
Disassembly
The new Modeling > Disassembly command allows you to delete the inclusion operation of an assembly occurrence
and to reinclude all its parts.

29
TopSolid 2016
Settings
Two new options are available in the Assembly section of the Tools > Options command:
-
The Edit in-place part before its inclusion option enables you to configure the automatic positioning of the
insertion cursor before inclusion in the in-place editing context.
The Allow to synchronize several levels of assembly option allows you to perform operations (drilling,
trim) on assemblies of more than two levels.

31
TopSolid 2016
Bill of material
Representation
As with drafting documents, you can now choose how you want the assembly to be represented (in previous
versions, only the detailed representation was available). If a set is selected, for a part or subset to be listed in the
bill of material, this set needs to be in the selected representation too.
Function in columns
In a bill of material, it is now possible to define a column corresponding to a function parameter such as the
diameter of a screw, the type of head, etc. The function parameters are now listed in the Bill of Material > Columns
command's window. They can also be recovered in a BOM index.
32
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Visualization
Texture
The Cylindrical and Spherical categories are now available in texture documents.
The cylindrical projection lets you wrap a texture around a bottle type part, while the spherical projection wraps a
texture around a sphere.
Analysis
Two new commands have been added to the Analysis menu:
-
The
Analyze Profile command provides all the relevant information about a profile. Each constituent
element is highlighted by a color and the minimum radii (useful for machining) are identified by specific
labels.
The
Analyze Projected Area command calculates the projected area of a shape along a direction.
Missler Software
33
TopSolid 2016
Construction
Directions
Two new commands have been added to the Direction menu:
-
The
Cartesian Direction command lets you define a direction by specifying three values in relation to a
reference frame.
The
Direction on Profile command lets you define a direction tangent to a profile by specifying a
profile and a point.
Tools
Annotation
The Complete to 360 contextual command provides the complementary dimension of a dimension type
annotation.
Stock
In an assembly document, the stock of a part can now be defined from a part
occurrence. In that case, a new representation called Stock Representation containing
the stock occurrence is created in the Entities tree.
Classification
The new Classification document type, which can be created from the Special tab, lets you define a classification in
the form of a tree made up of classes, subclasses and levels. This classification can be associated with a part or an
assembly via the Tools > Classifying command, which will subsequently allow you to make searches using this
criteria, or to recover information in a BOM column.
34
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Machining frame
The new Tools > Functions > Provide Machinable Component Function command lets you define the frame to be
used for machining the parts or assemblies, and the frame for nesting parts (see Nesting (optional module)).
Mirror document
In a Part or Assembly document, a mirror document can be opened via the Tools > Derivations > Open Mirror
Document command. This command can be very useful if the mirror document was renamed and/or is located in
another folder of the project.
Missler Software
35
TopSolid 2016
The Parts tab is used to select the parts to be nested by dragging them from the Project tree, and to enter
the nesting information (quantity, gap, rotation).
The Supports tab allows you to select the supports where the nested parts will be placed.
The Options tab is used to adjust the maximum calculation time for the nesting optimization, the gap
between supports, and to check the consistency of materials and the thickness of parts and supports.

TopSolid'Fea
Moments displayed in the measurement tool
In an analysis result document, the Results > Measure command now displays the moments when a node is
measured.
Welded assemblies
When parts have a welded contact defined between them, only one mesh is created for this group of shapes.
Moment
The new Analysis > Moment command allows a moment to be applied on a cylindrical or rectangular face in order
to simulate a torque applied on this face.
Missler Software
37
TopSolid 2016
Tangential load
The Analysis > Uniform Line Load Density command provides a new Tangent mode to simulate a moment on a
complex shape by applying a tangential load on all its edges.
38
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Drafting
Optimization
Modifying the properties of the 3D model document no longer results in the recalculation of the drafting
document's views.
This option is used only when an exact projection is performed. It significantly reduces the projection times.
View titles
Any type of parameter (name of the projected set, etc.) can be retrieved in the title of a view. The parameter name
must be entered in brackets (ex: [parameter name]). The parameter to be displayed can be created beforehand
using one command of the Construction > Parameters menu (Parameter from Set, Parameter from Project).
Missler Software
39
TopSolid 2016
Detail view
The detail sketch is now split into multiple segments according to the reference view. These pieces of segments can
then be hidden using a masking operation.
Example of masking a boundary line in a detail view. The red portion is hidden to obtain the right view.
Automatic hatching
When creating a cross section, a section or a local cross section, the new Automatic hatching option automatically
modifies the hatching of joined parts. In this case, an automatic hatching operation is created above the cross
section operation.
Example of automatic hatching on a cross section (orientation and spacing of the green parts are different).
In addition, the Automatic hatching command now lets you manage the spacing between hatches. Three
thicknesses are available. Borders between categories can be defined in the Advanced Options section.
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Tables
Two new commands are available in the Detailing menu:
-
These tables are stored in the Tables folder of the Entities tree.
Composite dimensions
When selecting measure geometries for a composite dimension, it is now possible to create intersection and
extreme points when clicking on the
icon.
Threading/Tapping description
The Threading/Tapping description option has been added to the dialog boxes of dimensioning commands to
display either the description of the tapping/threading operation or the tapping diameter. This option is particularly
useful for dimensioning tapered tappings as shown below.
Missler Software
41
TopSolid 2016
Masking
The Very high masking level, which was not allowed to be modified and was reserved for texts, has been added to
the local attributes of all detailing elements.
Drawing
The texts contained in Drawing documents are now supported by the projection commands (main view, auxiliary
view). But it is necessary to switch to the exact projection mode to make them visible in detail views, cropped
views and interrupted views.

43
TopSolid 2016
Unfolding
Unfolding by deformation
A new section called Formings is available in the unfolding command. This section lets you process areas which are
not strictly unbendable.
The Border forming flanges mode allows you to deal with some specific deformations located on the edge of parts
with relatively simple geometry, such as areas created with a swept flange along a continuous and non-linear path
of edges.
The Global mode allows you to deal with more complex unstamping cases using the FTI (Forming Technologies
Incorporated) calculation module. It is useful for processing not unbendable or undevelopable parts (stamped parts).
This module is optional.

Interfaces
New converters
Two new converters are available and allow you to import files designed in Rhino 3D, as well as
3D XML files.
TopSolid'Viewer Pro
This new product lets you view both packages generated by TopSolid 7 and files in AutoCAD format.
TopSolid v6 import
Template management
As with the other exchange formats, a document template can now be selected when importing a TopSolid v6 file.
PDF generation
When importing a drafting file, TopSolid can generate a PDF file and import it without conversion in order to obtain
a faithful recovery of the TopSolid v6 drawing. However, TopSolid v6.17 must be installed on the same computer as
TopSolid 7.
TopGMI Inventor
The TopSolid'Gmi module for Inventor has been rewritten. It is now integrated into Inventor in a tab called
TopSolid'Gmi and the dialog box is docked. This module also manages assemblies, including those with assembly
level drillings.
This module can also be launched in silent mode from TopSolid 7.10. When a Part document (.IPT) is imported,
TopSolid asks you which converter you want to use (Spatial or TopGMI). When a TopGMI file is imported, no
question is asked and the module is launched in silent mode. Inventor needs to be installed on the workstation.

TopSolid 2016
This section describes the new features made to the Machining application in the version 7.10 of TopSolid 7.
2D
In topology, the machining altitude can now be defined based on other than the altitude of the selected
geometry. This new feature is available in the side milling and end milling operations.
A local environment (additional geometry) can be defined in each operation. It can be a sketch, a solid or a
surface.
48
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Regarding technological point management, an icon showing what type of technological points it is now appears
on the tool path. In the Operations Manager, a blue check mark tells you that technological points have been
added to the operation.
The 5-axis drilling (available in version 6) is now available with all operations (drilling, centring, counterboring,
etc.) and all options (pecking cycle, contouring and pocketing). Therefore it is much more efficient than in
version 6.
Missler Software
49
TopSolid 2016
When performing hole machining operations, deep-hole drilling intersections are now managed. The main
advantage of this new version is that it also works with pecking cycles.
The VoluMill roughing is available in the version 7.10 through the 2D VoluMill option. Calculation of tool paths
and cuts is performed by this algorithm (we only provide the stock and finish shapes). All the roughing
operation's grayed out options are not managed by VoluMill.
An extended feature makes it possible to manage the machine head in tool paths. The machine head is defined
in the machine document.

3D
3D residual sketches can now be extracted. These sketches are not associative. There are as many sketches
created as there are detected areas.
In 3D sweeping operations as well as in raster passes and projected spiral finishing operations, barrel tools are
now managed by TopSolid, which will help improve your productivity significantly.
In 3D sweeping operations, you can change the ISO direction by double-clicking on faces. If green spheres are
displayed, the faces are properly linked.

In version 7.10, when the following option is activated, all the changes made when modifying the operation will
be applied to that operation, but the next operations won't have the information. If the resulting stock of that
modified operation has been changed, the next operation won't use it for calculation.

4-axis machining
In 4-axis contouring operations, you can now send the G41/G42 compensation code.
In 4-axis radial finishing operations, if the machine allows it, an angle can be added to an axis in the machining.
TRACYL mode (machine cycle). This cycle is available for end machining and side machining operations, with the
purpose of sending the flat paths with the wrapping diameters to the machine. The machine then wraps the
paths.

TopSolid 2016
5-axis machining
When you perform a swarf machining operation, you can now define compensation (G41/G42 + normal).
Depending on the machines, this compensation code can also be sent in some finishing operations (sweeping).
5-axis constant-Z finishing (similar to Z-level undercut with 5-axis benefits) is now available. This new algorithm
makes it possible to calculate a path closest to the part while avoiding the projection and manage the tool as a
ball cutter instead of a lollipop cutter in Z-level undercut machining.
The FishBone strategy can now be used in continuous 5-axis machining. This type of machining is particularly
well-suited for impellers, making it possible for machining to be performed in the material flow direction in the
impeller. This new strategy, which was developed through cooperation with a French manufacturer of
helicopter engines, enhances the range of specialized features provided by TopSolid.

In 5-axis sweeping operations, lead-ins and lead-outs can now be managed along a curve, like in
version 6. During incremental lead-in/lead-out, the curve is positioned on the start and end point
of the path. The curve can then be created anywhere.

Turning
The virtual jog features new options compared to the previous version, making it easier to create part transfers.
These steps can be done in a method, which allows each user, for each machine or situation, to define its own
transfer sequence.
In finishing contouring operations, you can define a constant cutting angle in turning and manually edit the
normal. This feature allows you to maintain a constant cutting angle and sometimes to finish a part in a single
pass.

Scenario features have been enhanced for ease of use, especially for large machining operation sequences.
In non-constant mode, the time zone can be reduced in order to graphically shorten the length of the film.
You can also move several machining operations at once. A right-click on a scenario operation gives you easy
access to a selection menu.
The grouped mode enables the lead-in, the operation and the lead-out to be displayed as a single block in
order to make the scenario more legible.

Operation manager
A new scenario representation makes it possible to sort operations for files with only one channel per part
holder. This option can be accessed once a repositioning has been performed in the same document. When
moving machining operations with the sort feature:
-
Operation paths are not recalculated in relation to the state of the stock. Consequently, the operation will
be shaded in the Operations manager because the stock is not managed properly. It needs to be updated
using the
icon.
A new icon allows you to extract the stock either from an operation or from a machined part to a new
associative part document. This option has multiple applications, from drafting through to export to customers.

The notion of casting stock (available in version 6) has been added to the stock creation options.
It is now possible to define a STL stock and specify a facetting tolerance in the options.
Finish management has been greatly improved so that parts, stocks and assemblies can be retrieved. When
dragging an assembly document into the part setup document, it can be disassembled to retrieve parts. A
Disassembly operation will be created in the Operations tree.

With the availability of both the Electrode module and the Nesting CAD module, it is now possible to manage
the gaps of the electrodes, their positioning and the stocks.
Electrode and nesting-related developments have been extended to all CAD documents, making it possible to
manage all inherited origins and stocks. The position of the origin can then be defined in a part or assembly
document.
When the machining document is created, the origin will be positioned on the frame defined in the part
document. The part will also be positioned through this frame on the machining document's absolute frame.

Workshop documents
In order to generate only what is useful, the environment activation/deactivation and the stock change no
longer appear in workshop documents. Moreover, the setting of min/max operations is now available.
In addition, it is possible to manually change a parameter after creating a workshop document. This is what is
called workshop document "scraping".
Verification
This new version features several verification optimizations such as the possibility of quickly updating the
previous operations using the animation or turbo mode, in order to avoid saving an intermediate stock.
For 4-axis machinings (screw machinings for example), it is now possible to fix the tool in the verification.
66
Missler Software
TopSolid 2016
Partial verification can now be performed on the part in order to get a more fine-tuned result.
Miscellaneous
According to the new ISO AERO standard, it is now possible to create a mirror repetition of the machined part in
a new machining document. The resulting document includes all environments, which gives you the possibility
to keep the lead-in movements.
A first step towards MachiningCloud integration (external tool database) has been made. Milling tools are
available. Further link improvements are expected for the next version.

68
A new option lets you create a threading point in the center of a cylinder.
A facetted stock can now be updated.
The top and bottom destruction roughing makes it possible to perform 4-axis roughing.
Multiple falling parts are now managed.
It is now possible to manage several threading geometries.
4-axis geometry's CAD synchronizations can now be retrieved.
Important: Change in Wire method. This feature lets you manage changes.

This section describes the new features made to the Split and Mold tooling applications in the version 7.10 of
TopSolid 7.
Design
Analyze projected area
The new Analyze Projected Area command, which is only available in a Part document, lets you calculate the
projected area of the part to be injected, which is useful, for example, for calculating the closing forces of the mold.
The calculation is based on the projection direction you choose.

TopSolid 2016
Split
Pre-study blocks
The Split > Pre-Study Blocks command lets you quickly start a preliminary project by creating an assembly of "ghost
blocks" via the Core Cavity Blocks command. These blocks are then used when creating the mold.
Creating a new version of this study will help you produce the real blocks from the same part, or from a new version
of this part.
Shrinkage
A new option has been added to the Shrinkage command.
Shrinkage mode:
For a given shrinkage factor of 1%, 1% is subtracted from the
final dimension.
For example, for a length of 100mm, the result is 101.01mm
once the shrinkage has been calculated.
Expansion mode:
For a given shrinkage factor of 1%, 1% is added to the initial
dimension.
For example, for a length of 100mm, the result is 101mm once
the shrinkage has been calculated.
These two methods of calculation are only approximations. The Shrinkage mode gives the closest approximation
because, the real part with shrinkage can only be obtained through simulation.
Parting edges
Parting edges from a plane
The new Edges from Plane option, which can be accessed via the
icon in the Parting Edges command, lets you
create parting edges from a selected plane.
The part's existing edges are selected automatically and the missing edges are imprinted if necessary.
Two creation modes are available: you create either the part's external edges and/or the part's internal edges.
On each of the desired planes, the internal parting edges are selected.

Insert surfaces
Creation of insert surfaces in Shape mode has been optimized. The tangent faces and edges between the lifter and
the part are also better managed.
Insert surfaces are generated automatically from the shape created by the user. The corresponding parting edges
are automatically imprinted on the part, and then added to the selection of parting edges.

Parting shells
Error reporting
In order to improve the detection of problems that may result in shell creation failures, shells are now displayed,
even if they are not valid.
Additionally, if parting surfaces are superimposed on part's surfaces, they are highlighted in red on the shells.
Finally, the Check option has been added to the Advanced Options section. It will check whether the geometries of
the shells generated by the command are valid.
Parting shapes
The Check option has been added to the Advanced Options section. It will check whether the geometries of the
parting shapes generated by the command are valid.
Just as important as starting a study in the Split with a valid part is verifying that the parting shapes that are created
are valid too. The assembly resulting from the Split will then contain only valid parts and the study in TopSolid'Mold
can start out properly.
New version
Creation of new versions of the Split is now managed automatically via the New Version command in the Split
document. This command lets you copy the Split-related original documents to make changes to them, while
keeping all of your original files. Indexing is also managed.

The Drivers section of this dialog box lets you automatically calculate the pocket height
and the process diameter in case you are using a model.
The Blend and Fillets section makes it possible, if necessary, to create the radii/chamfers
associated with the process, just like the Pocket command in the Design module.
Manufacturer selection
A Manufacturer field has been added to the Components section of the Cooling Circuit dialog box, which allows you
to make a preselection when choosing the components to be used.

Cooling baffles
Cooling baffles are now based on planes (and no longer on surfaces) to reduce the losses of hooking and provide
greater stability when changes are made.
2D runner circuit
The new Not projected mode of the Runner Circuit command allows you to create the desired runner circuit on a
2D plane, regardless of the block shape, the presence of holes or surfaces to ignore when drawing the sketch, etc.

Union of runners
When editing the Runner Inclusions Management via the contextual menu,
runners can now be joined to each other to improve the process management.
This new option is particularly useful when the process generates Parasolid
invalidities during subtraction.

77
TopSolid 2016
Angular pin
The Angle Pin command now manages the pre-drilled standard slides. The positioning of the angular pin and the
calculation of its stroke and process depend on the existing hole in the slide.
TopSolid can automatically detect the components that collide with the angular pin in order to create the pocket. If
the automatic selection is not what you want, it is possible, at any moment, to switch to manual mode and select
the desired components.
Afterwards, you select the type of pocket you want to use. The pocket can be defined using a sketch you created, or
can come from a predefined document template which is automatically sized based on the angular pin data.

TopSolid 2016
Mold kinematics
Calculation of the mold kinematics has been completely overhauled.
Mold joints
The Mold Joints command automatically creates the four standard rigid groups of the kinematics (Ground, Plastic, B
Side and Ejector System groups) and the rigid groups of the movements.
These groups are based on the Mold document's sets.
This command also automatically creates two prismatic joints (B Side and Ejector System) and finally a prismatic
joint per Movement group.
Missler Software
79
TopSolid 2016
Slide joint
The Slide Joint command lets you create Profile on Profile joints to manage the joints between the angular pin and
the slide, but also between the locking block and the slide.
Mold simulation
The Mold Simulation command automatically produces the driving tasks of the previously created joints, and
creates the simulation scenario.
You can also play the kinematics animation using this command.
The fields of the dialog box are filled in automatically, but you can still add elements
manually in the Shapes with shrink, Runner and Cooling sections.
Visualization
When a part is edited in place in the Mold document, a preview bar for mold components is now available.
