GRADING/EVALUATION FACTORS
Proficiency areas include chords, chord progression, note reading, song techniques and
scales. Proficiency due dates will be announced in class. Proficiencies are performed in
class and are graded pass/fail; each student is given two opportunities to pass each
proficiency. By the end of the semester the number of passed proficiencies determines
this portion of the student's grade.
The final number of proficiencies and the grading scale is subject to change through the
course of the semester. The class will be notified of such changes at least four weeks
before the end of the semester.
Attendance is also a factor in grading. See below.
Attendance for any instrument class is imperative. Any absence not cleared in advance
with the instructor either by phone or by leaving a message through the Communications
and Humanities office will be considered unexcused. Students who are absent from class
are responsible for materials covered during that class period. Lack of an instrument or
text after the first class period will be considered an unexcused absence. Each student is
allowed one unexcused absence. Each subsequent unexcused absence will lower the
student's final grade by half a letter.
CLAS SKILLS
CLAS Skills are not taught or reinforced in MVS 1126.
