Ashley Daniels Self Assessment of TLP

9/12/16

Please summarize your general observations of the self-assessment.

This self-assessment was different than I anticipated it to be. I answered the questions as
to how I believe I would respond in those situations. I have past coaching experiences that I was
able to reflect upon and give the best answer possible. I do believe that it would have been
helpful to have an option to answer a question with not applicable or not sure. In the end, I
probably would not have had much data to be evaluated.

Did you notice any patterns or inconsistencies?

I felt as though most of the questions repeated themselves. There was a direct pattern
with most of the questions. I was asked multiple times about the following questions: How or do
you reward your employees? Do you use long or short-term goals? Does your mission/vision
align with the organizations? Do you or your employees perform beyond expectations?
At first, I wondered if the questionnaire was built this way to see if you would answer the
questions differently as you went along, but all of the similar questions were worded in the same
way. While reading through the TLP Participant Manual it discusses that the Leadership Profile
assesses four of the most important leadership skills or behaviors. I am assuming that the
questions were based off of these four skills to gather data on how we measure in those specific
skills.

Do you feel the results are different having gone through the Leadership Program? Why?
Why not?

This question is hard to address. In most of my positions, as I stated, I have not had
employees that directly reported to me. This made it very difficult to answer the questions most
effectively. I know how I would work with my employees if I had them. I do believe that going
through this program has helped me to define the type of leader that I want to be. I know how to
better develop SMART goals, a customer-centric culture, and how to motivate, engage, and
move people towards a common purpose. I also know that I have to continue to improve on
critical-thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution. These leadership skills that I have
obtained have helped me in my life personally and I will be able to take and use them in any
leadership situation that I encounter.

Do you expect your results will be consistent with your observers?

I have no doubts that my results will be consistent to my observers. Some of them have
reached out to me and expressed the same concern that I have for the questionnaire so far. They
all stated that they have answered the questionnaire in the same manner that I have. When
discussing this assignment, it was recommended to me to have people in all different aspects of
my life answer the questionnaire. I had people that I had some supervision over, two different
supervisors of mine, people that know me on a more personal level, peers, etc. I wanted to get a
well-rounded picture of how others view me as a leader. I am excited to see what the results are.
My only concern is that this questionnaire will not depict exactly who I am as a leader, due to the
fact that I do not directly supervise anyone.
