Wordle
Wordle is a free tool that creates word clouds with words of your choice. You can either type in
the words manually or you can copy and paste words from another source. The size of the word appears
larger in the word cloud the more often it is typed. Once the word cloud is created, then there are options
on changing the format, font and/or colors. There are options to save the word cloud for future use or to
print immediately. There are also existing wordles available online to choose from.
Word clouds can be used in the library setting to show a distinction between the different sections
of the library. They can also be used to introduce academic language, descriptions for new books or
character analysis. As a future librarian, I could see myself using wordle to provide information on the
theme for a makerspace area.
