Procedure for Gear box Design (method 1)


1. From the given problem
a) Decide the amounted of power to be transmitted
b) Motor Speed
c) Maximum and minimum speed
d) Number of speed required
2. Calculate the Required diff Speed of gear box
a)
Find the progression ratio () =(Nmax/Nmin) 1/r-1
Where
Nmax =Maximum speed of gear box
Nmin =Minimum speed of gear box
r = Number of speed required
Case 1
Find out whether multiples of ratio 1.06(refer PSG data book P.NO.7.20)
To take the value from R40 series. Skipping S -1 speed
Where S No of multiples
Example
=1.32
1.06 X (1.06 x 1.06 x 1.06 x1.06) =1.32
To take the value from R40 series.Skipping 4 speed
Case 2
Find out whether multiples of ratio 1.12(refer PSG data book P.NO.7.20)
To take the value from R20 series. Skipping S -1 speed
Where S No of multiples
Case 3
Find out whether multiples of ratio 1.25(refer PSG data book P.NO.7.20)
To take the value from R10 series. Skipping S -1 speed
Where S No of multiples
Case 4
Find out whether multiples of ratio 1.6(refer PSG data book P.NO.7.20)
To take the value from R5 series. Skipping S -1 speed
Where S No of multiples
Case 5
If not satisfactory above conditions
Find the speed
(N min, Nmin x 2-1 ,Nmin x 3-1,N min x 4-1.. ,N min x r-1)
3. To form the structural formula [ Z (X) ]
To spilt value of No of required speed into multiple of 2 & 3
Exmple
(Z =P1, P2, P3 ..)
a) No of Speed Required is 9 = 3 3
b) No of Speed Required is 8 = 2 2 2
c) No of Speed Required is 12 = 2 2 3
Z (X) = P1(X1) P2(X2) P3(X3) .
Where X1 =1, X2 =P1,X3 =P1P2 ..
Example
No of Speed required are 9

4. To find the number of shaft based on No of stage
Number of shaft = Number of stage + 1

Number of shaft = 2 + 1 = 3
5. To draw a kinematic diagram
From structural formula to draw kinematic diagram

P= number pair gear required at the stage (or) number of out speed between at the
stage
X = Intervals between the point
Example
Z (X) = 3(1) 3(3)

Stage 1
3(1) Number of gear pair required is 3 Between Shaft -1 and Shaft - 2

3(3) Number of gear Pair required is 3 Between Shaft -2 and Shaft - 3
6. To draw a Ray diagram

b) To Mark a point A at lower speed of Gear box

d) To Mark a Point C from the point B in the Interval of (X2=3)

a) To find the No of points on the shaft

Procedure for Gear box Design (method 2)


1. From the given problem

To spilt value of No of required speed into multiple of 2 & 3

d) No of Speed Required is 9 = 3 3
e) No of Speed Required is 8 = 2 2 2
f) No of Speed Required is 12 = 2 2 3

4. To find the number of shaft based on No of stage
Number of shaft = Number of stage + 1
Example

From 3(1) is first stage, 3(3) is second stage
Number of shaft = 2 + 1 = 3
