provide500stateoftheartecofriendlyfoodcartstovendorsthroughoutNewYorkCityneighborhoods.Joined
bylocalstreetvendorsandsupporters,MOVESystemsunveiledthenewcarts,whicharedesignedtoincrease
safety,providecleanfoodpreparation,andhelpreducegreenhousegasemissionsfromfoodcarts.Joiningthe
CouncilandMOVESystemswereFrankBisignaro,CEOofFirstDataandSeanBasinski,SeniorVice
PresidentoftheStreetVendorProject.
Asastrongsupporterofourcity'sstreetvendors,IampleasedtojoinMOVESystemstodayastheyannounce
thisinnovativepilotprogram,"saidSpeakerMelissaMarkViverito."Smallbusinessownerslikefoodcart
vendors,arethebackboneofNewYorkCityseconomyandthefabricofourneighborhoods.Ilookforwardto
seeingtheresultsofthispilotandthankMOVESystemsforthisimportanteffort."
Imthrilledthatwecansupportthefoodcartentrepreneursmanyofwhomareourveteranswhilemaking
tangibleenvironmentalandsafetyimprovementsthroughoutourcommunities.MOVEispleasedtojointheCity
CouncilandNewYorkstreetvendorstointroduceanewfleetoffoodcartsthatdelivermorevariedcuisineina
cleanerandsaferenvironment,saidJamesMeeks,PresidentandCEOofMOVESystems.
ThenationalenvironmentalgroupEnergyVisiontodayreleasedareportassessingtheimpactsofNewYork
CitysexistingfoodcartfleetversusMOVESystemsnewMRV100.Accordingtothereport,eachMRV100
reducesclimatechangegasesby60%andsmogcausingNOxpollutionby95%therebytakingthepollution
equivalentofnearly200carsofftheroad.
NewYorkersencounterairpollutioneverydayandinsomecommunitieslikemine,thereisanundeniable
directcorrelationtosomeofthehighestasthmaratesinthecountry.Impleasedthatthecartsbeingprovided
willreduceemissions,improveairqualityandincreasesafetyonourstreets,saidCouncilmanDonovan
Richards,whochairstheEnvironmentalConservationCommittee.
FirstData,agloballeaderinpaymenttechnologyandservicessolutions,providescuttingedgetechnologyto
theMRV100.FirstDataisproudtopartnerwithMOVESystemstoprovidemobilefoodvendorswiththe
innovativetechnologynecessarytogrowtheirbusinesses,saidDanCharron,ExecutiveVicePresident,Global
BusinessSolutionsatFirstData.Weareparticularlyhonoredtosupportthe100veteranentrepreneurswho
arebuildingtheirfoodcartbusinesseswiththehelpofFirstDatabusinesssolutions.EveryMRV100comes
equippedwithFirstDatasstateoftheartClovermobiletechnology,apowerfulpointofsale(POS)business
solution.
TheMRV100incorporatesafederallycertifiedheavydutyfueltankandlowemissionCNGtoachievethe
highestenvironmentalandsafetystandards."BeingthefuelprovidertoMOVE'scleaner,safervehiclesisan
honorforCleanEnergy,"saidPeterGrace,SeniorVicePresidentofSalesatCleanEnergyFuels."Everyoneis
awinnerwiththelaunchoftheseecofriendlyvehicles,especiallyNewYorkerswholovetheirfoodcarts."
CleanEnergyFuelsistheleadingproviderofnaturalgasfuelfortransportationinNorthAmerica.FirstData
andCleanEnergyFuelsarebothinvestorsinMOVESystems.
NewYorkCityhasnearly8,000foodcartsandtrucksoperatingonitsstreetsresultinginanestimated1.2
milliondailymobilefoodtransactions.Thetypicalfoodcartusespropane,ahighlycombustiblefuel.TheCity
hasalreadyexperiencedfoodtruckandcartfires,includinganincidentin2011thatcausedthetemporary
shutdownoftheWestSideHighway.
TheMRV100vendingvehicleincludedarestaurantgradekitchenwithrefrigerationandasustainableenergy
systemthatutilizessolarpower,alternativefuel,andpluginhybridtechnology.Eachcartwillbemodeledafter
astationarykitchenandwillbeequippedwithrefrigerationandsinkforproperfoodpreparation.
Theaveragecostofabasicfoodcartisbetween$15,000tonearly$25,000.MOVESystemsisprovidingthe
cartsatnocosttothefirst500vendorswhosignuptoswitchtothenewmodel.
